ahh

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I did a search and this thread seemed like the best place to post this, hope that its ok!

So I'm a major newb and wanted to root my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate from Rogers that is currently running a stock Gingerbread 2.3.3. I have never rooted anything before, and find much of the language in this thread to be confusing as I am pretty much entirely ignorant of such technical terminology.

If anyone could help me or point me toward a so-straightforward-even-a-chimpanzee-could-understand-it tutorial on how to root this device I would be forever grateful.

Thanks in advance, your help is deeply appreciated.

Does anybody know where to find the fugu root kernel and the sghi896 uxkh2 kernel now that megauploads is gone? Every mention I can find of these files invariable points back to megauploads.

Tried SuperOneClick2.3.3 but doesn't seem to work for me.

Thanks.

Edit: Actually never mind - just got SuperOnClick to work. It seems it didn't like the USB port I was using originally.

Works!

Also confirming that SuperOneClick v2.3.3 works to root Captivate I896 (Rogers) with Gingerbread (also 2.3.3)!

Thanks everyone for the solution and confirming--I was hearing conflicting messages on other sites, but this worked brilliantly under 4 min!

Note sRedwolf: I also could not find a working source link for fugu or uxkh2 kernels.

That is good news, I just bought a Captivate for my wife to use with Petro Canada Mobility and I need root access to make the web browsing work.

Thanks!
