[Q] Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 Unlock/Root issue

I have a brand new Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 smart camera/phone. It runs on 4.4.4. I've been through the wringer trying to unlock/root it, but the farthest I can take it is rebooting it to recovery through adb. No reboot-bootloader. I have managed to get a safe mode, but I'm not sure what that means. It looks like it simply doesn't even have a bootloader (if that's possible). Maybe I'm overlooking something really simple, but in any case, I've exhausted my knowledge on it. I'm providing 2 different things as sources here, so mabe someone wiser than me can crack this. My getprop, which will be listed below, and this link to the latest software/firmware update. I was trying to see if I could add in the root/SU to the zip itself before I flash the update. Also, I still have a gut feeling that this is possbile, just really difficult. Anyway, the getprop:

The problem is getting access to the bootloader. I'm not even sure how the partitions work yet, so it's still too early in the game. I'm going to have to see what changes need to be made to it in order to obtain root. Rest assured, I'm on it though.

The root engine can be download in other place to see if it's supported.

For the lollipop custom Rom, it's weired to see it here and not in others places....

Thanks for link. I just gave it a try but cant get it rooted on my advice with super root.

Anyone else has feedback on this or has gotten root in other way?

I don't think anyone has achieved root on this device yet. From everything I search online, seems clear there is not a way. At least not yet. Being this is a niche product with low sales figures, it may actually never get enough people interested to get it developed in anyway. Let's hope I'm wrong:)

My cm1 has successed rooted

Hey, good news, I just root my cm1 with root master. You just need to search Root Master or 魯大師，download the program and root, that's it. If cm1 doesn't be rooted successful once, try again. I try two times and it success to root my cm1. Hope my information helps.

    I have had no issues running this setup so far. And I am running Xposed with a number of modules (Amplify, App Settings, Gravitybox, etc), Adaway (via F-droid). I even encrypted the phone, which has inccreased boot time significantly (as expected) but further operation is actually quite good.

    Coming from a Note 4 I was very afraid this was going to be an unusable device but it seems that the rocky start had more to do with the very poor screen protector the previous owner had put on than with the device itself. The only thing I changed is to increase the dpi slightly because I felt the device was smoother when running at 400 dpi.
    But today I have changed back to 300 dpi (stock is 480 dpi) for the wm density and then set applications individually through App Settings. I will check back to inform you of my experience.

    My positive experience so far. Bought this flopped awesomeness second hand and found I could not live without Xposed (and general DPI of 340).

    Installed Kingroot, rooted succesfully
    Bought and installed SuperSume, supersued me succesfully.
    Installed Xposed alpha apk + modules App Settings, GravityBox, NoSafeVolumeWarning
    Installed Flashfire, flashed Xposed zip
    Rebooted, fearful of bootloop, saw the LUMIX logo appear and disappear, again and again, again and again, then "Android is upgrading" and after some patience BOOM: it works.

    Configured App Settings to set camera on DPI 480 and it is useable again!

    The problem is getting access to the bootloader. I'm not even sure how the partitions work yet, so it's still too early in the game. I'm going to have to see what changes need to be made to it in order to obtain root. Rest assured, I'm on it though.

    To sum up (in order to keep it documented even here):
    While having root, you could try to install FlashFire (if you haven't already), one of Chainfire's amazing tools.
    Download the .dat-file to your phone and start to flash it with FlashFire. This will most certainly fail, but instead of simply rebooting upon failure, FlashFire should swiftly show you an error-message about some file not being in original state. Either you try to catch this message -- or you take a look at FlashFire's log after the reboot. It should be available in Internal memory > FlashFire > lastlog. Hunt down the altered file and fix the problem. For instance:
    • there might be different versions of the file, one of which ending in .orig. Simply replace the offending file with the .orig-file and retry the flashing.
    • If that's not the case, download the update file (.dat) for the version you are currently running on your device directly from Panasonic (i.e. not the update you are trying to install -- but the update which brought you to your current version). Rename the .dat-file, to .zip, extract it and try to locate the missing file. Copy it over to your CM1 and try flashing again (thanks JPCoetzee for that tip!)
