[Q] Question about rooting before activation

I am currently a Verizon customer using a Galaxy Nexus, but I plan to switch to T-Mobile when my Verizon contract is up on May 9. I just purchased a brand new, unlocked Nexus 5 on Ebay that I plan to use as my first T-Mobile device. My question is, is it possible to root it before it has been activated? If so, will rooting it in any way affect the ability to activate it?

Rooting has nothing to do with activation.

Btw, why didn't buy it from Google? Ebay phones sometimes have blacklisting issues because if some heartless sellers that dont pay it or claim it as stolen when the return period is over.

I just got my Nexus 5 from google, rooted it, and got lots of stuff installed and working on WiFi before getting it activated on T-Mobile. My biggest problem was getting my account number out of Virgin Mobile so T-Mobile could port my old phone number. No problems on the T-Mobile end of things. Why are you waiting until your Verizon contract is up? I believe T-Mobile is paying off cancellation fees. One of my friends just did it, and they simply just sent him a check in the mail to pay it off.
