Red led is permanently on. That's quite common for Defy MB526(5) owners after vapour and humidity under the screen. Other models also face an issue with red led. There are discussions over proximity sensor and battery might be a reason for Red led weird behaviour. Here I am trying to clarify and ask whether ultrasonic bath can be helpful. Except screwing hardware there was an idea to put the phone into ultrasonic vibrations. Probably that helps to get rid of micro particles left by water (sea water) and minerals and salts. Is there anyone who had tried that or supported these measures?

There are some ways possible and not checked on practice:
1) freeing a screw behind the proximity sensor on Defy
2) placing device under supersonic waves to clean the sensor
3) switching off (red led) proximity sensor at all via software

If you have faced red led permanently on and/or you have fixed it, got any ideas pls place a comment with your ideas!

I now own two defys, my original (mb525 non plus version) well and truly battered ( but still working - just ) defy and a brand new one (defy+) from Three ( uk mobile phone network opperator) who are/were selling them off unlocked for £69.99

Way back in August of 2011 my defy got qwet, and was then dried out in the sun - it didnt like it and the red LED came on ( not at full brightness) - there was also some misting around the LED/proximity sensor, and the top left of the screen - see post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209041&page=2

The Dim red LED light never went away, and its still there. However after a few years, in the top left of the screen there appears to be a lot of dust/white specks between the glass and the screen, just enough to iritiate when its being used in daylight.

As i now have two defys, at some point when i have time I will dissassemble my old Defy to see what damage ( if any ) has occurred.

Looking forward for that! Pls find your time ASAP. Led on my device isn't dim. It is rather bright working at full power which is annoying.
