[Q] Reliable alternative to the official Skype client

Hi all,
I am finding that the official Skype client is a killer on my N4, the battery goes even faster (!!) and it gets real hot (had some soft reboot once trying to d/l a file via Skype because of overheating).
Well, mostly the issue is with the battery.
As far as I know, IM+ can connect to the new Skype servers for now, but it is really really not reliable. I get delays, connexion drops and not such a great mirroring with the desktop clients.
Anyone has an idea about what else could work? Any advice would be appreciated !

You can give a twirl to the Modded/Tweaked version of the app:

Some of the earlier builds (can be found on the above link as well) were more battery friendly.
