Recently bought a 920 from vodafone germany - unlocked - and I can't stand the volume cap: my music is too low!

I've tried the CV_GB 3003 variant but it only seem a bit better.

I've had an HTC 8x that had an incredibly high volume... don't hope for that much but at least a decent level.

Anyone tried any other roms? Does the dev edition 3002 have this volume cap?

Thanks!

All ROMs for countries that are members of the EU will have the volume capping since it's an EU law as far as I know.

I can't stand that cap either since I have some live concert bootlegs which are recorded at a much lower volume than "regular" purchased music. That stupid EU volume capping makes listening to those in a noisy environment like out on the street impossible :(

That's why I always re-flash all my phones to non-EU ROMs right after unboxing them xD

For the Lumia 920 I flashed mine (Germany CV) with the Singapore CV ROM right away and it deff has NO volume cap whatsoever now. I only had it at max volume once and just for a few seconds (just to try it out - of course you shouldn't listen too loudly regularly because it can really harm your ears!) and it is even so much louder than the HTC HD2 I had before (which of course was un-capped too).

I'm also totally in love with the audio quality of this phone - most of my music is ripped straight from CD to WMA Lossless and it really sounds amazing on the Lumia through my Sennheiser earplugs. Also a lot better than on my old phone.

Just flash the Singapore CV ROM and you'll be amazed how much power the phone's amp actually has when it's uncapped! :D

btw. when I increased the volume above a certain level for the first time (I think it was 20) it showed a warning that listening too loudly can damage your hearing - but this happened only when I increased the volume that high for the first time. Since then it did never show that warning again. But I'm curious what's the max value for volume you can set an EU capped device to? The max value for the uncapped Singapore CV ROM is 30 - I would really like to know how bad the capping on the EU devices is since I never even tried playing any music with the Germany CV ROM the phone originally came with xD

p.s. my phone is set to "English" language and "United States" country settings idk if switching it to an EU language and/or country settings would cause the capping to occur no matter of the ROM

Wow terrific response! Thanks!

The thing is I get to 30 as well, but it sounds much lower than my wife's 8X (that comes from UK).

So I'm a little bit confused now, because I have installed the UK ROM but set it to Spain / Spanish (that's where I'm from), so the question is:

- Are the UK versions capped? Because, as I said, my wife's 8X sounds much louder even with beats off.

- Maybe the UK version is not capped, but when I change the region the cap comes back? My wife has also set its phone to Spain / Spanish and doesn't have the cap.

-What about the developer version? Anyone knows?

Maybe I'm gonna try your version as well to see what happens... wow reinstalling & customizing everythings makes me lazy...

One more time, thanks for your response ;)

I've got an unbranded GB CV and the volume maxes out at 30. Listening to music at that level is pretty loud and uncomfortable so I've got it set at 20.

Ok so apparently the maximum volume settings is 30 in all Lumia 920 ROMs but with 30 reflecting a different actual gain value depending on which ROM/capping is in place.

As I told you idk if changing the country/region settings does affect the volume capping too or if it depends on the ROM version only.

But why even bother? If you want the phone in Spanish just set it to some country in South America where Spanish is the official language and you should be good :D

Since I want my phone in English I just set it to the US and didn't even bother to try what happens when setting it to UK or Germany region settings. And I would recommend you to do the same but as I mentioned instead with some South American country which has Spanish as it's official language.

About your wife's phone:

Have you played the same song using the same headphones on both phones? These are factors that have a significant impact on the maximum volume as well.

And if you don't want to re-flash to a different ROM you might also just try to change the country/region settings and see if that has any effect even when not changing the ROM.
