I'm back around after trying out the dark side for the last few months. I got my real estate license, and had been using....an iphone....lol. I had to try it. And ya know, its not all THAT terrible. But there are NO customization options, and it gets really boring. So after denying my inner nerd for the last few months, I decided to just be myself again and come back to what I love. I missed it around here. =D
Yes. Happy to see you here again. Welcome back into the fold.

Hi everyone

I've using my sgh-i777 with supernexus (first v2 and now v3), and I want to give a try to the official JB rom (meanwhile I wait for a stable kit kat rom :) )

For what I've read here and in other threads, Framaroot seems to work for rooting, but my question is, can I unlock my phone with galaxsimunlock afterwards ?? Or there is another app to unlock 4.1.2 official room ??

Thanks

ExynosAbuse didn't work for me

Android_lil,

I had great success using the ExynosAbuse. Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35512626

It is pretty much as simple as installing the APK. I think I stayed on the stock 4.1.2 for about a day before I started flashing other ROMs, but I didn't notice any problems...

Have fun!

I installed ExynosAbuse 1.4 on my SGH-i777 running 4.1. The App informed me that the security whole was "exploitable" (though how it made this determination I do not know) but when I tried to root the device using the one-click rooting feature I was simply told that it was "unable to root" and then the App crashed/closed. I am currently looking for other options.

Use the Framaroot.apk Here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37508806&postcount=1
Check the box to Allow to install from Unknown sources from the Settings of the phone, under Security.
Open app, select Install SuperSU, then select the Aragorn exploit.
Once it is completed. Reboot ur phone. Done. U now have Root. And be sure to hit the Thx button for the Developer of the app.

I have spent the last 3 hours trying to educate myself on all this stuff. I have an AT&T I777 running the 4.1.2 that AT&T released recently. It runs fine but I've read so much of the advantages of rooting and custom roms that I figured I'd give it a try. This couldn't have been easier! I understand that the way to understand if the root was successful, I should have the "Superuser" app which I do! The whole process took maybe 5 minutes! Thank you for posting this!
I also have an AT&T i777 on stock 4.1.2 that I'm trying to root. Framaroot/Aragorn says it was successful, but Root Checker says it was not. I have run it multiple times (always rebooting afterwards), and the other available Framaroot exploits fail.

Is there anything else I can try?

Any help is much appreciated

Framaroot has never failed for me with rooting my i777. Maybe try an older version. Try v1.6.0 and see what ya get. That is the version that i currently have on my i777. And follow my same instructions in my previous post again with the 1.6.0 version.

Btw, what version did u try that failed ?

Thanks a ton, 1.6.0 did the trick with Aragorn. I had tried the newest and I also tried one that I just randomly picked from somewhere in the middle, unfortunately I can't remember which version it was now, but neither one worked. 1.6.0 definitely worked though, and I can confirm that galaxsim unlock works as well on 4.1.2 AT&T i777.
