Brand new to the android/smart phone scene so if this is excessively noob, please forgive :D

If I were to root my Sensation XE, will I need to unroot it to get the updates to Ice Cream Sandwhich when it comes out??

And a side question for those who enjoy a challenge :)

What app can I use on this phone to prevent and monitor background data use?
Currently using 3G watchdog for monitoring but it does not seem to be able to cap data use on specific apps.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

You need s-off and root in order to install custom ROMS.
These have the OTA function disabled, because the devs can usually get the updates to us before HTC.
On that principle, you will not need to unroot to get ICS.

On the subject of data monitoring, good luck in finding an app that measures data the same way as your carrier.
I used 3G watchdog and it differed from my carrier(O2)by 5 MB.
The ensuing row has still not produced an app that I can accurately measure my data so that it tallies with their way of doing it.
If you find something ,please post your results.

:)
