I've been looking for some time now on how to root the Xperia TL on a Mac. I've tried Bin4ry's Root with Restore using the RunMe.sh script with no luck. I'm new to Android, and I got this phone at the end of last year. I have already backed up my data using Carbon, backed up my Nova desktop, and transferred those backups to my Mac.

TLDR: Does anybody know to how to root Xperia TL (build 7.0.B.1.152, model LT30at) using Mac OS 10.8?
If I have forgotten any necessary information, please let me know.

You have to install the Backup & Restore app that Binr4ry's method uses manually on the TL stock firmware as AT&T removed it. You can download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2uqvhllf0ngrr4n/backuprestore.zip then try rooting again.

As a side note you were able to use Carbon without issue to backup your apps? did you do it to the cloud or sd card?

I actually did two backups: using Backup & restore and Carbon.
Carbon was a breeze to use. Just select the apps you want to backup, and choose where to. I did it to my SD card because the cloud options are Premium features.

You're going too deep into it lol. I don't remember having to create any backups when i rooted. Just install the app, root using Binary's method but make sure your also in usb debugging mode or it wont work. When you start Binary's method and it detects a phone it sends a backup or some **** that you restore within the Backup & Restore app. You'll get it man

I've been trying Bin4ry's for some time, but I keep getting:
Code:
/Users/user/Desktop/android/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15.zip Folder/RunMe.sh: line 110: ./stuff/adb: No such file or directory
Successful, going to reboot your device!
/Users/user/Desktop/android/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15.zip Folder/RunMe.sh: line 112: ./stuff/adb: No such file or directory
Waiting for device to show up again ...
/Users/user/Desktop/android/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15.zip Folder/RunMe.sh: line 114: ping: command not found
/Users/user/Desktop/android/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15.zip Folder/RunMe.sh: line 115: ./stuff/adb: No such file or directory
Copying files to it's place ...
/Users/user/Desktop/android/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15.zip Folder/RunMe.sh: line 147: ./stuff/adb: No such file or directory
You can close all open command-prompts now!
After reboot all is done! Have fun!
I don't know what is going on, but this is getting bothersome. I haven't touched any items in the folder, so I can't say anything's wrong from that perspective.

Backup file

Disconnect the phone, and reboot it yourself

Sent from my LT30p using xda premium
Well, my problem is that the script is not prompting the phone with the Backup & restore dialog, therefore nothing is actually happening on the phone. My display is only showing what I've been using while I wait for alternatives.

Have you installed the backup app that spectre told you to install?

Ok, you are having the EXACT same issues I was having.
First download the apk Spectre has supplied I will also attach it to this reply
Then copy paste it to your phone via "Computer" or "My Computer" Just drop it anywhere right in there. NOT IN A FOLDER
Open up Astro or any file manager, hit manage my files or whatever to get to "/mnt/sdcard" (thats what mine says on my lt30at)
Click the Backup-Restore file and it will promt an install
Go ahead and Install it
Then, You can also utilize Androxyde Flashtool for Windows, do the installation, then check out Flashtool directory (Flashtool/drivers) and locate “Flashtool-drivers.exe”. Double-click on it, choose Xperia TX, Flashmode, and Fastboot Drivers. To check if the drivers are properly installed, look at Device Manager.
Ok, now Grab Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v Here ---> http://uploaded.net/file/0fpyh5c5
Then go to this video and follow him WORD FOR WORD.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EpkrCq1gfM
Do not skip around the video or try to skip some steps. Just trust me here.
If you have followed what I have said here to the T then you should be golden.
If I have missed something in this guide for the lt30at please let me know guys.
Hit thanks if I have helped you.:highfive:

To root my LT30at I flashtooled to the X.303 O2 firmware, than ran what is basically binary's script in the flashtool app. It immediately pops up the dialog asking if I want to restore the backup, roots and reboots the phone.

ROOTED

I did it and all went well! Thanks to those who helped!
Now I figure out what all the fuss was about for rooting.

(I take precautions. I've been researching this since the week after I got my phone.)
