[Q] s-off?

Hey guys, i currently have the fascinate rooted with the newest miui. was thinking about getting the inc2 bc my sd card mount is messed up and dont have insurance. looking through the roms i see alot say you have to have s-off. what does that mean? lol. Thanks in advance

It meas that all security checking done by the phone is turned off - what I mean by this is that normally an update/ROM would be digitally signed using a code/algorithm that HTC has - the phone would check the update/ROM file against the signature. If it doesn't match, then no update.

S-off turns off this checking, but in the process it unlocks the NAND flash and/or e-mmc card write protection so it is possible to write the the live filesystem from your running ROM.

What hboot version are you guys on? Alpharev recently cracked 1.02. Also htv has promised to roll out unlocked bootloader in the future as well as updating some current generation phones.
