[Q] Sensation Heating Issue!!! Probable Solution!!

Pardon me if i have brought up silly or crazy question but I have to ask it :D

I have a sensation and have been using vipers rom from very beginning with cpu to 1.5Ghz and 3d/2d slightly overclocked. and there is heating issue at area around Sim/sdcard slot and front screen part while surfing web or playing games(basically while using resource hogging apps) That's where cpu is located i believe. [also the phone starts lagging when it heats TOO MUCH]

Then past month i clocked every thing back to sensation's default. it helped to cool the temp lil'bit.
Then few days ago I switched to Sultan kernel which dramatically makes my phone lot cooler than it used to.(but still heats up:p) I overclocked to 1.5Ghz and is still cool. Undervolted to -50 worked fine. Then i started to tweak 3d/2d gpu overclock/underclock and it heats up like before. So, here i think proper tweaking the cpu,gpu can generate less heat on the phone but I have tried many things as i mentioned above and i am not sure what exactly is making the phone hot or cool down or what to do about overclocking/underclocking/undervolting, etc, etc, etc:confused:

So here I am asking other user for their guide for proper tweaking the phone to its best performance without heating it up. Any suggestion??:silly: what cpu freq?? 2d gpu freq?? 3d freq?? undervolting?? leaving stock??

I dont mind clocking the cpu to 1.2ghz or 1.5 ghz.. the processor on sensation can handle upto 1.8 or so just fine. But all i want it to generate less heating, more performance and definitely more battery life.. so any suggestion?:fingers-crossed:

This info can help other noob out there (specially me:cool:) to tweak their phone without worrying what to do and what freq to use....Cheers

For more info i use anker battery.. and as far as i know battery is not the cause for heating on sensation.

Bricked is the best kernel for the heating problem. Don't oc the cpu and gpu and you should be fine. The only problem is that bricked is a bit laggy

overclock gpu produce much heating (my experience) and that also bring not much more performance. Overclock cpu produce of course some heat too, but not that much. Also undervolting the cpu reduce the heating.
I think the coldest one are, which are more close to stock.

Hi,

Overclocking whether CPU or GPU will definitely cause heat, you cannot have both performance and coolness besides each other ever; in case you want performance, then you have got to tolerate high temperatures and further, a bit lag. But if this heating thing bothers you too much, then you have to stay with a lower CPU/GPU frequency. In this case, if you still do not want to lose your performance TO AN EXTEND, then I recommend flashing an AOSP/KANG ROM instead of Sense based ones. :)

Good luck :good:

Unfortunately bricked didn't worked out for me, also was a bit laggy like u mentioned.

I have set the cpu to 1.2Ghz and both 2d/3d underclocked with -50UV.. As of now working like charm.:good: But I wanna know, Does underclocking Gpu has any effect on performance??

In case you've flashed Sultan Kernel in which Ville C2's GPU drivers are included, then IN MY OPINION there would be no problem at all.
I'll provide the link to it if you couldn't find the correct one. :)

That pretty "Thanks" button's waiting for U, in case I helped :p

Using sultan r17.5 . hope that's the one.

put it in the fridge when overheat.not joking.i always need to do that:screwy:
I used to do that too with my old phone.:highfive:

Currently clocked everything at it's default with -50UV and it works great without heating too much like before. Although one question remains for me. Does underclocking gpu has any negative impact on performance????

Underclock your 2D GPU to 145MHz on my kernel. Underclocking the GPU can make transition animations and games laggier HOWEVER unclocking the 2D GPU instead of the 3D GPU will do no harm and the difference is barely noticeable. Your homescreen will also be just as smooth as before because Rosie is rendered by the 3D GPU, not the 2D GPU. If underclocking your 2D GPU to 145MHz doesn't make your phone as cool as you want it to be then you can also lower the speed of your 3D GPU. If your phone is still getting hot after unclocking your GPU then use a more energy efficient CPU governor like Badass or Intellidemand. Also, in my kernel's Aroma installer, enable mpdecision. The mpdecision in my newest beta for Sense ICS ROMs (r18b3) works best, so install r18b3 and see how you like it. You can download r18b3 from here: http://goo.im/devs/sultanxda/Pyramid_Sense_BETA/Sultan-kernel-r18b3-Sense-Aroma.zip

flashed r18b3, clocked cpu at default freq, 2d/3d both slightly under-clocked, -25UV, enable mpdecision, intelldemand governer and walla.... its running smooth again :victory: playing nfs, no laggy feeling whatsoever, still heats up at the bottom part but its bearable
And thank you for your awesome kernel man.. keep up the good work:good::good::good:

Be careful with battery life on r18b3 though; people have reported that the phone doesn't go into deepsleep with Intellidemand so your battery may drain.

thanks for the heads up, using smartassV2 right now...any prob with this governer??

EDIT: nope all governors are consuming abt 50% of processor power while in screen off or deepsleep/ideal mode.
