That is a matter of preference and need. My guess is that you want the captivate instead because u asked the question in a captivate forum where bias will obviously be involved, which tells me sub consciously you have already chosen. Not meant as a flame or sarcasm

If you are not interested in messing around with roms and a custom experience go with the iPhone. If you like tweaking things and experimentation then there is no comparison stick with the captivate

Captivate
Cog 2.2

Neither is *the best*. They both have their pros and cons. As said before me, it does come down to personal preference. The Apple App Store does have the upper hand in terms of the sheer amount of apps and the delivery system. It is better then the Android Market as much as I hate to admit.

The deciding factor for me is this: Apple has lost me as a customer. Every year they release an update to a product and then stop supporting the previous model. I dislike locked down hardware and proprietary bullshit. The only reason I would ever run OSX is because now I can do it on a Hackintosh and have BETTER performance with my choice of hardware. That so-called "dedication they give to their products" only last a year to a year and a half tops.

I love open-source. I love Android. Everytime I go to use my iTouch, I always end up cursing at it. It just isn't a pleasant experience for me. Android over iOS anyday.

You don't have a Captivate, yet it is a good phone, but you like the iPhone because Apple has more dedication? I think you should just buy the iPhone...

Eh, catastrophic PDF exploits and no copy/paste for a year doesn't sound like dedication to me.

I'm confused as to how apple got this reputation. Clearly they have it, I just don't get it

Please read the op. He said he has a Captivate but is wondering if he should exchange.

The reputation comes from their legion of "fashionable" fanboys.

The iPhone 3G started having issues with iOS 3.0 when the 3GS was released only a year after the 3G's release.

The iPhone 3GS started having major performance issues (and overheating issues) with iOS 4.0 when the iPhone 4 was released a year after that, and the 3G was pretty much unusable with 4.0 at that point.

What do you think will happen next year when the fifth iPhone comes out?

Their 'dedication' is an illusion; they have planned obsolescence.

That said, like others have stated above, if you like tweaking your phone, the Captivate is a good choice. I'd add that if you do not like tweaking your phone, the Captivate is a pretty terrible choice.

The iPhone 4 works out of the box rather well. You're not going to get much beyond that, but you get more out of the box than most. Its hardware features are matched by very, very few phones (LED flash, FFC, noise cancelling mic, working GPS, good back camera, etc).

Its OS, even with jailbreaking and Winterboard, just doesn't compare to the level of customization with android devices.

Also, I don't know what your definition of many is, but >120,000 is a pretty big number to me. At this point, the sheer number of apps for both iOS and Android are meaningless numbers. The vast majority of apps on both platforms are useless or redundant, except for games, where iPhone tends to get titles first, if android gets them at all.
