I just went on vacation and every now and then I just straight lose my signal and it switches to roaming. I have all the roaming stuff turned off (at least the data) so I'm not too worried about extra charges but its bugging me that I'm just randomly losing service. My wife has the same phone. She's on stock, non rooted, OTA before the global one and her phone is fine. I'm running AOSP Rage 1.5 Linaro. I love this rom and don't wanna change. I also downgraded my radios from the global ota to the ics leaked ones. So 801r/803r to I think 310r/308r.

What should I do?

Screw around with stuff so that you can get the best signal. Hers works fine because the RIL was written by HTC/Qualcomm ours is kind of spotty because it's done by a bunch of code hackers who do it in their free time (which we all appreciate!). Try different radios or even flash back to a sense rom to see if it fixes it, if it doesn't your phone may be crapping out.

Take the back off the phone and look at the contacts inside the back cover. If they are dented then they not be making good contact with the contacts on the back of the phone. I had this problem. This can happen from dropping the phone. You can either get a new back cover or you can try to adjust the contacts on the back of the phone a bit. I did the latter with great success, but I work with micro electronics on a regular basis. Be careful you can break them.

I looked. They r dented but I get good service in some very specific areas. My wife's phone also has dented contacts on her back cover but she has perfect service.
