Glad I searched and found this thread. Had the same issue and resolved it by using the alternate stock image. I originally used the Root66 to root my note 2. I was in a hurry and did not read ahead and did not realize that the bootloader was still locked. A few days later I tried to flash clockworkmod recovery from within the Rom mananger app. Got the dreaded yellow triangle that said unauthorized software was installed etc....I tried the stock recovery which did not work.....Odin failed at the sboot.bin. Thought I bricked it until I found this thread... I am now fully restored and am getting ready to root with the jailbreak method. I keep getting a message that my laptop does have the proper software to communicate thru the casual program so I have to do some more downloading. Thanks to everyone who helps here.. GA :D

It has an odd file extension .xz (perhaps meant to be .gz) so I told 7zip to extract it. resulting file ended in .tar.md5. Then it works.

Hope this helps.
Glad I found this thread...however, my 7zip will not extract the xz file, it says it is not an archive. Any thoughts?...I will try to re download and see if that's it.

I am having the same issue and able to use alternate restore to get phone to work but I try to root and unlock bootloader, every method and time fails. Does anyone have successfully rooted after this issue? and how?

Can't thank you guys enough as soon as the alt file finishes downloading I'm hoping this fixes my issue too. My phone isn't even 24hrs old and I seemed to have tried doing too much without reading. I'm hoping there will be a 1-click method that works as good as wugfresh did with my gnex. So if I do get it to flash back to stock do I need to do anything else before trying the Casual method again?

Still a problem, I think...

Thanks for this thread, it saved me from boot loop hell!

When I first got into this problem I had Verizon re-activate an old phone because I needed service.

So, in order for me to get things right, I had to use the root66 file with the PIT file. That got the phone booting properly and download mode shows that everything is stock. Yesterday I tried to get Verizon to re-activate this phone and it failed over and over again, even after a new sim card. They want to warranty replace the phone but I'm afraid to send it in this way. The new Note 2 will arrive on Saturday (2 days) and I need to send back this Note 2.

I just tried the alternate method and it too seems to get the phone visibly fine.

Is there more I need to do to get this phone to be more "Verizon invisible" so I can safely return it?

HELP, please...

Thanks,
Marc

Does no one really know the answer to this, or was I not clear in stating my question, or maybe is no one here?

The alternate restores keeps the bootloader unlocked have you tried running the normal restore since the phone boots up now? If you can it'll bring it back to shipping state

Hi dmonger; Thanks for the reply.

Do you happen to know if leaving this alternate image installed would prevent the phone from activating on Verizon?

Thanks
Marc

Alternate image

No it would not. The alternate restore is the exact same stock firmware, just minus the bootloader

Hi kintwofan; Thanks for the quick response.

After trying to install the stock image, after succeeding with the Alternate, I now have a yellow triangle when going into download mode, on the first screen and before hitting volume up. After volume up it is gone and "CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD" says "No".

Do I now need to root, so I can run triangle away, and then try to get the stock or alternate image in again?

Thanks,
Marc

Hi dmonger / kintwofan;

I have now tried the download link, as well as the two mirrors, just in case they might differ. I have also tried with and without the PIT file. Also, sometimes to get the phone loading again I need to use root66, but I don't know why. I am trying all of them as I write this again:
Download Me without pit fails at sboot.bin
Download Me with pit fails at sboot.bin
Mirror 1 without pit fails at sboot.bin
Mirror 1 with pit fails at sboot.bin
Mirror 2 without pit fails at sboot.bin
Mirror 2 with pit fails at sboot.bin
Alternate with pit works fine
Root66 with pit works fine

It seems that I can never load sboot.bin

Any recommendations? If I can get it to activate, I'd be happy... plus don't need to get Verizon involved.

Thanks,
Marc

Sounds like there is no need, but what does your flash counter show in download mode. By the way Thank you!

You can't get sboot because your bootloader is still locked. This will have nothing to do with service. Does your imei show in about phone?

You're welcome, we all appreciate your work and assistance, even if we can't do more.

If this is the flash counter, it says CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No

If it isn't, all I have on that screen is:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I605
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
the Android image
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!

Thanks,
Marc

Sorry, this took so long the phone was trying to go to Verizon to activate and I had to wait for it to time out.

My About Phone contents show:

Model number: SCH-I605
Android version: 4.1.1
Baseband version: I605VRALJB
Build number: JRO03C.I605VRALB

AND, the IMEI number under status is correct and matches the printed number under the battery.

Do you think I'm safe to go to Verizon to get it reactivated, even with the yellow triangle?

Thanks,
Marc

Yes, there will always be a yellow triangle on download mode. What's important is the custom binary in the top and phone status

Ok, I'm off to Verizon for a new sim card and see what happens. I'll let you know afterwards.

Thanks a million for all your help.
