Straight to the point:
1. Installed 2.1 stock ROM
2. Rooted and enabled side loading
3. Installed ROM Manager and busy box
4. Copied a 2.2 variant ROM to root folder on SD card
5. Installed 2.2
6. Booted into 2.2, made all the customizations
7. Went back into recovery mode to take a backup
8. Now it is stuck in recovery mode no matter what I do

This is really strange. The rom manager boot loader was working when I initially installed 2.2. But after I take a backup, it seems to get stuck. This has happened for even 2.2 stock ROM too. Could anyone please help me out here.

Nearly the same problem !!!!

I have upgraded my captivate to I9000_Model_Froyo_version22 using Odin3_v1.3.2 and the update done well .
A Had orientation problems so I downloaded reorientation root from ([kernel] I9000 Eclair kernel reoriented v1.3 09.21.2010) post and used GalaxyS_One-Click_Root_All_Models to enter recovery mode with this update.zip.

But now I can't go out recovery mode volume up and down works to select elements but power button not firing any event so I can't even reboot the device in a normal working mode .

I have removed the battery and returned it but it returns to recovery mode .

Please heeeeeeeeeeelp.

For now, used ODIN 1 Click to get to 2.1. Installing vanilla 2.2, and doing my customizations, and staying away from ROM manager until this gets sorted out.

Sorry but could you give me step by step instruction how to go out from this problem >
Simple, search for odin 1 click installer, and it will do the work for u. Any post that gives u the link would provide u the 2-3 steps needs to use it. Instructions to use 1-click Odin are posted in a lot of posts in this forum.
