Dears,
Kindly I want to know some info about swap as I am a newbie in root.. I downloaded 2 apps for this "MemoryInfo & Swapfile Check and Swapper For Root" and I tried them.. They are very amazing apps but sometimes I don't feel that they are working.. Anyways, I disabled the swap and I deleted the swap file from the SD card after using "Swapper For Root" and then I tried "MemoryInfo & Swapfile Check" to make sure that my device can do the swap or not and then I Uninstalled both of them but when I wrote in terminal "free" after I deleted both of the 2 apps I found the below...

Swap: 61432 37240 24192

I want to know if it is normal or not to find a swap space like this.. I used MemoryInfo & Swapfile check and Swapper For Root Only.

If this space is not normal or it will affect negatively on my device or my SD card so I wish you can help me solve this problem.

My device is SE Xperia Mini Pro SK17i "Rooted" through a guide on SE Forum, Build Number 4.1.B.0.587.

Thanks in advance & I very much appreciate your support.

Best Regards,

Please don't create more than one thread about the same question as this is against the rules. I have deleted your other thread as it's the same as this one and you're already receiving help here.

Thanks

I am sry about the second thread but I thought that I will recieve no more replies so I just wanted to refresh the post no more.. I am sry again :(

After I uninstalled the apps I restarted.. And after I deleted the scripts I did a reboot too.. But it is still the same :(

If it is okay to find a swap space like this in my SD so I don't have to worry.. The problem is that I don't have a PC or a Lap nowadays.. On the other hand, I don't want to disable the option of swap in case I may do it later after taking a backup from SD.

Thanks in advance guys for your support.

If you look in your sdcard, can you see the swap file? If you can, you can either delete it or try and figure out how to reset that particular swap using terminal emulator. If you want to try the second solution, you need to look for the swap in /sys/block and let me know if you find it.

No I can't see the swap file in my SD card... I searched by "swap" and I found "mkswap, swapon & swapoff" in /system/xbin and I checked /sys/block as you told me and I found some files with the names of "ram0, ram1, ram2.. Till ram7 and zram0" "loop1 till loop64" "dm-1 to 64" "mmcblk0" "mtdblock0 till mtdblock3".. What do you think!?

okay I took a look in the app...

I would try this in terminal emulator:
su
echo "1" > /dev/block/mtdblock3/reset

if it doesn't work, remove the "" from around the 1.

I got.. Cannot create dev/block..etc. Wrong directory !! :((

Sent from my SK17i using xda app-developers app
in terminal try:
su
swapoff /dev/block/mtdblk3

if that doesn't work you can look again for the swap file. According to the app it should be somewhere in your system folder or you can just set the swappiness to 0

again in terminal:
su
sysctl -w vm.swappiness=0

which rom are you running right now, because you should also be able to restore just the system partition from a nandroid back up with out losing all your settings....

I didn't find any swap files.. I searched for "swap" and I got "mkswap, swapoff & swapon" no more files.. and I searched for ROEHSOFT in case the swap file will be named by the app's developer but I found nothing too.. I tried "swapoff /dev/block/mtdblk3" and nothing happened "Wrong Directory" So I tried "swapoff /dev/block/mtdblk3" and it showed me "Invalid Argument"... I became disappointed of this issue, Is it dangerous on my SD card or on my device to have a swap space like this !? "I can't take a backup from my SD right now, I don't have a PC or a Lap now" ... If it is not that dangerous, I will accept it :( ... Thanks again guys for youor support, If you find any others ways I will be greatful :)

Have you checked using "free" to see if the swap is still being used, if the numbers don't change over time then no swapping is happening. If the swap is in RAM then there is no harm to the device. If the swap is on the sdcard or internal memory then there may be a slow damaging of the media, but I think this takes a long time. Try setting vm.swappiness to 0 this will minimize the swapping until you are ready to flash a new ROM.

One reason why I asked what kind of rom you are on is because by flashing the rom again you should wipe out the swap. This is easy to do with with a custom rom but it is a little bit harder to do with a Sony stock ROM. Also any nandroid back up from before you set up the swap will wipe it out also.
