Yeah, I know they're not in the same league at all, but it's a serious decision for me. I can get either for about the same price (Galaxy Tab would be about $50 more - the international 3G version, that is), so that's not an issue.

Anyway, it boils down to the following for the GS3:
-More easily pocketable
-Better screen quality/resolution
-Awesome cases available (particularly - Otterbox Defender with built-in screen protector)
-MicroUSB port (easier to charge)
-Better camera
-No EDGE speeds (at least until the Chicago area gets the 1900Mhz roll-out)
-Has ICS now (Tab not getting it until July or August)

And the following for the Galaxy Tab:
-Bigger screen size (yes, I can still pocket it; much better for anything car-related with the car dock like navigation)
-Keyboard dock (sure, I can use the microuSB-to-USB adapter and use any USB keyboard, but the keyboard dock will be better)
-Put my bluetooth headset to better use, and make getting the Sony SmartWatch worth it (I can't warrant the purchase for anything smaller)

To most, the simple solution would be getting the GS3 and getting a tablet (3G or Wifi) along with it. But from experience, that doesn't work for me; I had both a Dell Streak 7 and a Nook Color for a few weeks at a time, and found myself going to my phone 9 out of 10 times, especially when I also have an 11-inch gaming laptop (which makes 10" tablets out of the question for me). So it's simply one or the other.

And obviously the list leaves a lot more reasons to go with the GS3, but the pros for the GS3 are "minor" to me - camera I could live without (don't take many pictures), I don't drop/damage my electronics (meaning case is kinda irrelevant), I don't do much web-related when I'm not at home (meaning EDGE is fine for my basic email and bus tracking - I don't use cloud storage or stream anything), etc.

In other words, the screen size of the Tab and the keyboard dock option are kind of a big deal to me.

Anyway, anybody have advice? And please don't just come into to post about random specs - my G2 is good for 99% of my Android use, and I don't game on it, so specs mean squat to me.

If the screen size and keyboard dock really is a big deal for you then you should get the Galaxy Tab. Although I personally prefer the Galaxy S3. I have an iPad and a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I always end up using my S3 most of the time.

True, although you can't easily fit the 10.1 or the iPad in your pants, and you can't make GSM calls on either =P

I mean, in the end I could deal with the smaller screen size (there isn't THAT much I'd use it for that I couldn't just use my 11-inch laptop for (with better video/audio) or use GPS/navigation THAT much), but having a physical keyboard to type longer stuff would be nice.

Is there by chance a good keyboard dock/case available for the GS3, with or without the Samsung microUSB-to-USB adapter?
