[Q] Tether Upsell Problem - Advanced Thread

Hello All,

I'm a SCH-I605 Owner but I'm currently working on my brother's SGH-T889 with the Jedi X9 Rom installed. As of this moment, I can't get tethering to work FULLY, however I have made some progress that I'd like to share with others and see if anyone has found a comprehensive solution.

Problem: Getting the ol' T-Mobile Upsell Website

Attempted Solutions:
1. Create A New APN using a different name but same APN address (FAILED)
2. Changed the USER AGENT on the browser to Mozilla Firefox / BlackBerry 10 / Android 4.0 (PARTIALLY WORKED)

In this solution, certain websites work but others do not. As an example, I have full access to Google and Gmail, however if I try to go to a link off of something I find on Google (example: MSN.com), the upsell page appears.

3. Use a 3rd Party App (FAILED) I tried WiFi Tether, FoxFi, and native tether (custom ROM - Jedi X9) with no luck.

If anyone has any suggestions to offer (excluding the remark of "don't be cheap and buy the tethering package"), I would greatly appreciate it!

What browser are you actually using when attempting this. From what I remember (and bare with me I havent dealt with this since the sidekick 4g days) but if I remember chrome worked best. IE was an absolute no go

Chrome is my Go-To browser, and my partial success was emulated when I used the User Agent change on Chrome, however regular Firefox also had the same results.

The ideal would be for it to work on Chrome

I'm looking into switching over to the 'truly unlimited' plans since i'm teetering on the edge of 5GB's of usage per month. but have been reluctant to move to it because i've read that they monitor things much more closely on that plan.

OP, are you on one of the tiered plans or the new truly unlimited deal?

Yes, I'm on the truly unlimited data plan.

Nope didnt touch the settings. Strictly the extension
