This Kindle is driving me crazy!

All the help and advice on here is so confusing - its about to have a meeting with my friendly neighbourhood lump hammer!

First off - your site Warns of the consequences of using the wrong utility with the wrong version of the kindle - make sure you are running version 6 million point factor 3 and a third!!!!

Other suggestions involve putting fire fire fire onto the tablet - again, its dead how can i? i may as well push my usb cable into a block of lard!

Ok so ive bitten the bullet and guessed that its an mk 1 - but even if im wrong, ive not gt far enough to do any damage - the pc point blank refuses to communicate with it - ive got a factory cable and ive downloaded several drivers - and running a command line of adb usb - gives me device not found
adb devices gives me no serial numbers etc
ordinary cable does nothing - factory cable at least boots the thing into fast boot mode.

I repair and program EPOS cash registers for a living - so this should be a piece of cake right? then WTF am i doing wrong?
sorry for the tone of this post - its just that ive been on this for days and ive filled my pc with useless programs, drivers and batch files - and im precisely where i was in the first place!

My first post was in the wrong place i believe so ive posted this from a link in the only reply there. - im going to copy and paste my original question below.
[the tone was far milder and more optimistic then lol]

"Could someone please help me with an idiots guide to un bricking my mum's kindle.
story starts with my mums kindle running very slowly - so I did a factory reset - which went well, followed by reinstallation of all her favourite games etc.

all was well until we turned off the kindle - then back on. All we get is the kindle fire logo that starts off as just a stationary logo. After a few seconds the screen flashes and the logo animates - that's it! - from fully charged to fully flat - that's all it does.Plugging into a pc - the device is not recognised.

From what i have found online, i went out and purchased a factory cable - a step in the right direction, as now when plugged into pc, the kindle lights up with the words "fast boot" in red writing @ the top of the screen, with what looks like traffic lights on its side underneath green flashing on the left and static red to the right.
my windows 8.1 laptop now recognises that a device has been connected via usb but the only place it appears is the device manager, where it reports itself as "Otter2-prod-04"

from this site i have found a link to download a zip file full of drivers - such as i386 [mine is a 64bit ?] and amd64 [not amd]
also other drivers -loads an exe file that tells me its installed device - but device manager then reports the kindle as a samsung?????

Up to this point, all the software is what shipped with the kindle - its NOT the HD variant - no software mods or routing or anything

I now have to admit defeat and bow to you guys for what to do next - i'm really concerned i don't do damage by going off half cocked as my mum is going nuts that i bust it in the first place!
many thanks in advance
