[Q] Unable to access dialer prompts such as *#0228#

So I'm trying to unlock my phone and was attempting to follow the advice of other posts on here but anytime I attempt to use the dialer to access prompts such as *#0228# for the battery it never enters into the menu mode. I've been searching but to be honest I'm not even sure what the official name of those kinds of prompts are. I tried it on other phones, such as a Galaxy S4 and it works perfectly to obtain any information.

Has anybody any information that may be able to help me actually utilize my phone?

Edit: Instead of accessing the menu immediately it does nothing. It will even attempt to call the number (and fail of course) if I press call.

You need to turn on the hidden menus and in order to do that you need root access.
