Howdy folks,

I am now the proud new owner of an hd+. It was marketed that nook had the full play store but in my experience, chat and messaging apps, google voice, talkatone whatsapp etc are marked as incompatible in the play store.

So far I am trying to live with the stock 2.1 nook rom.

Sorry for the noobish post but is this normal behavior and is this consistent with their "full play store" advertising?

Is it possible to root the rom and edit nook build.prop or is custom rom only way around it?

Thanks for your helps!

This behavior is the same as other users. Just because Play Store says it is not compatible does not mean it won't run on the HD+.

You can go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread and use my CWM SD to flash my Extras zip and it will allow you to install apps from unknown sources. No need to root. Then you can use other stores like Amazon.com or 1mobile.com and install from those. Or you can sideload the app from other devices.

Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.

The one catch is newer apps that are listed as "not compatible with device" will usually not work even when side loaded. They will install fine, but will not work when you try to run it.
