HI, I have nook for about a year and today USB port stopped working. Searched google but couldn`t find anything similar... The problem is when I connect charger to USB(tried different USB cables&chargers) nothing happens, even light is not lighting... Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you rooted? If so, have you done any modding to your Nook that relates to the USB port?

What Nook do you have, exactly?

Have you tried a factory reset?

Have you tried a factory image reset?

Yes, it is rooted for a long time.
No.
Nook simple touch with glow light I guess.
No and no, should I?
Yeah, definitely try those resets. First, make a Noogie backup so you don't lose all your data. Then, perform a regular factory reset (Settings > Device Info > Factory reset > Erase data and deregister). Once that's done, either bypass Oobe or login to your B&N account, and plug your Nook in to charge. If it works, you're good! If it does't, flash NookManager, and navigate to Rescue > Restore factory.zip > Yes. Let that reset run its course, and then try again with the login and charge.

If none of the above work, it's safe to say that your Nook has developed a hardware issue and is unfixeable. Let's hope that doesn't happen, right? :fingers-crossed:

there is no path like that in nook manager, do I need to add something else to sdcard?
Congrats on 200 posts! :)

And oops, I bet I messed that up. I don't remember exactly, but what you have to do is:

1. Flash NookManager.
2. Select "No, continue without wireless".
3. Now that you're in the homescreen of NM, look for the word "Rescue" or "Restore". If you find an option like that, select it.
4. Now, you're in that new menu. Tap "Restore factory.zip" (I'm sure of this one).
5. Now confirm your selection by tapping the affirmative choice ("Yes", "OK").

That oughtta do it.

Looks like battery is too low to power on now...is there any way to charge it alongside nook?

Oh, that's a bit of a problem. I haven't ever heard of or seen any way to do this. :(

By any chance, have you tried to charge your Nook with a different microUSB cord?

Unfortunately no :( Maybe I should try ordering a new battery? Or connect some external 3.7v power source?
Well, it seems at this point in time that a new battery would be the only fix. So, if you can order one, order one. Google "nook touch replace battery" for replacement instructions. Then, you'll be good to go.

Problem solved! :)

Just a guess but maybe the internal solder connection to the USB connector and board broke from the connect/disconnect cycles?

Does it work if you push the cable a certain way (gently)

It would require disassembly to fix and I am not sure how difficult it is.

You can get a Nook powered up without a battery, but it's not quite as simple as just connecting power.
The Nook (actually u-boot.bin) insists on having a battery connected.
It knows if one is connected by the detection of two resistors.
I think that I did a few posts on this, but this is one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487055

My USB port is also detached, so unable to recharge the battery

Would it be possible to simply hook up some wires from an USB power cable to the (disconnected) battery to recharge it?
or would this be bypassing some vital circuits on the nook and cause trouble?
I'll await a reply before boldly going!

Lithium-ion batteries are a bit particular.
They tend to be ruined if you discharge them too much or go up in flames if you overcharge them.
That's why all battery packs have a tiny circuit board built right into them that protects them.

A USB supply puts out 5.0V, that's more than the fully charged battery voltage of 4.2V.
Therefore, connecting the two together would not be a good idea.

There are various hobby circuits available for charging lithium-ion batteries from a USB adapter.
Here's a cute, inexpensive one to do that: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1304
If you read the description, you'll see that charging a battery is not a simple thing.

On the other hand, I think that I'd just fix the problem.
You're going to have to take your Nook apart anyway.
If you have a (very) good soldering iron and (very) good skills you could replace the connector.

If you don't care you could also just find where pin #1 of the USB connector goes and find a nice trace to solder a wire to.
With that wire as positive and any convenient trace for ground you could just run the wires out to a charger.

Thanks for that quick reply.
I've already had the back off, and twisted off the battery connection cables.(!). The USB connector tab is loose, so I think I'd best get a local(ish) guy to see if he can fix it up.
