My galaxy tab has not updated the Market to Google Play.

So i did a little digging and noticed that Gmail was gone. My son uses this tab mostly and so i don't typically watch its behavior. But even after downloading a the .apk for Google Play and GMAIL 4 or 5 times i still have had no luck in downloading any apps from the market and those apps surviving a reboot.

steps taken:
Hard reset X 2
Memory card format (in tab) X 1
banged head on flat surface X 33

please assist if you can

Hi,
When you reboot and as you say the application is deleted, is the icon remain but turn to generic android icon or the icon disappear also?
After reboot and you notice an app is missing, then when you go to play store, you install it again or you have an option to open it from the play store?
Do install the apps in the tablet or in the external SD?

Sorry for answering your question with a multiple questions, but really I did not have an issue like yours, so I searched to get you some help, and most of people having the same issue either installed the apps in SD card or the launcher just don't load the apps, so either moving the apps to the internal memory, or go to setting/applications/manage applications/ >>> kill launcher or force stop it. This will force it to load all the apps again.

I am not sure about what causing this exactly, can you try removing the external SD then try one more time. but for me I always restock my tab and always using custom ROM, so I get clean install.

Do you happen to have a link to a how to root Galaxy Tab thread...preferably one that doesn't involve Odin or his gatekeeper Heimdall

One other thing. When I try to do a hard reset, it doesn't complete. It goes through the power off, reset, long ass boot up with VZW logo, and when it loads up again:

All his information is still there

Gmail isn't on the tab but I can access the market...and when I download gmail it already has log in info (I don't have to put in password or username)

The memory card has been formatted

I'm at a loss

sounds like those cases reported here that internal sd card become read only.
It varies from one to another.
Some completely lost the wifi info and any customised setting.
Some (like you) stuck at certain state.
I think the NAND chip has gone bad, at least that was what concluded.

Great. A hardware issue. So is there any fix for this that I can implement myself?
