Hello,
There is a problem with the Verizon SCH-i815 (and maybe the P68xx also). The volume cuts in and out as if some sort of AGC is in action. The problem happens with low level music: piano, light strings, quiet jazz or even rock music that starts off quiet and then builds up. There has to be sections of music that is *near* silent for a couple of seconds or more. Music by ELO, The Moody Blues and others are recorded this way.
The problem isn't an isolated issue, it's not an isolated faulty jack, it's not faulty ear/headphones. I've tried several good ear/headphones of varying impedance -- 16ohm to 60ohm and sensitivity. It could be a circuit design flaw concerning the jack sensing or firmware configuration. The sound chip is Yamaha.
Easy to reproduce:
MATERIAL:
1. Samsung supplied "Music Player", no EQ
2. Samsung supplied music file "Silky whisper.mp3"
3. Samsung supplied earphones, white with button and mic (I think it's pretty generic to Samsung)
Steps:
1. Start Music Player.
2. Make certain volume is all the way down and the sound is muted (slash through speaker)
3. Press the volume up button once, twice (once to unmute and one step higher)
4. Play music file. Note how the piano cuts in and out throughout the song, especially during the opening of the instrumental.
Do any other 7.7 users experience the problem? The problem exists with the Samsung 7.0+ as well. The 7.0+ uses a Yamaha sound solution as well. The problem does not happen with the Galaxy 5 Player (Wolfson).
Anyone familiar with the Samsung/Yamaha sound chip? There do appear to be sound configuration files in the /etc/audio.
Thanks!
