[Q] What are the risks of losing encryption support by unlocking the bootloader?

Hello,

I've a Moto G. I want to unlock the bootloader, root it using TWRP and SuperSu, and then encrypt the phone's data. The process, detailed elsewhere, seems relatively easy to follow.

However, Motorola warns that by unlocking the bootloader 'you may lose encryption support'.

Encryption's a deal breaker so I'd like to know more about the risks.

I'm struggling to understand precisely how unlocking the bootloader may affect encryption support and I want to make a better informed decision.

I know 'droid uses dm-crypt and I'm relatively familiar with it so I'd have thought the 'loader would be unencrypted, whether locked or not. Presumably, if encryption didn't work with the 'loader unlocked I could simply relock it then encrypt.

Anyway, I'm concerned that I'm missing something obvious so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
