You were able to unlock the bootloader??

EDIT: I read the article in one of your previous posts. The mentioned app doesn't work post 4.2 though, so would I have to downgrade (somehow) or is there a newer solution?

I haven't heard from keithsmessina and my bootloader wasn't locked. I am on Bluegrass and not Verizon. Even though my baseband is of a verizon variant.

I did Google "unlock boy loader s4 mini" like you asked them and found nothing.

I have heard that is impossible to unlock the Verizon bit loader, however. ?

If I was able to downgrade to Jelly Bean the solution you referenced in page stuff might work, but it would require a ROM with the Knox 2.0 boot loader.

Ok, I take it you are on Verizon, so what version are you on. I will try to put together a work around for you. Is your version on sammobile for Verizon? I will do what I can since I am not a developer. Ghost

Sammobile has updates for the i435 and specifies using odin to load them so it is possible. Just from not recovery flashing. Have you tried custom recovery through Odin?

I'm on I435VRUBNE1. I actually downloaded it from sammobile and flashed it to my device on the process of rooting it.

EDIT: To flash a custom recovery I'd still need to unlock the boot loader.

EDIT2: I achieved root FYI. (Towelroot)

Stand by working on an answer for you. If you can flash firmware with Odin root shouldn't be far behind!

What methods of rooting have you tried?

Well, I am currently trying to find a way to add a custom recovery (a necessity for the flashing of custom ROMs), and it appears that that would require the unlocking of the boot loader.

I did refer to a link you posted on page 6 earlier by saying that I would need to downgrade to 4.2 to use that solution. That would require a firmware with the Knox 2.0 boot loader on it...

Sch i435 stock rom

Hi all,

For the stock rom please navigate to the link below and download probably the zip (it's compressed so it's smaller) which should be in the decrypted folder.

Note: the enc2 file is verizon encrypted.

(Just remove the spaces in the link)

To root this firmware simply download an older kernel and flash it, then use towelroot, install SuperSU (into system) and re-flash your updated kernel. Voïla! Verizon s4 mini rooted on the latest update.

Awesome!

I would like to root my SCH-I435 (Verizon) so I can move some of my apps to the SD Card.
I am new to Android Phones (and this forum), but am an EE by trade, so I am familiar with H/W and S/W, in general.
I have read through many posts here and on other sites.
I have tried Kingo, Saferoot, and others without success.
(One said my Kernel was patched)

This is the FIRST thread I have found that seems to offer some hope.
Being new to Android, I would appreciate if you spell things out a bit for me.
I don't want to turn my new (factory refurbished) phone into a brick.

I have also downloaded the
"I435VRUBNE1_I435VZWBNE1_I435VRUBNE1_HOME.tar.md5" from Sammobile (most of the other links I found were dead)
I believe this is the stock firmware from Verizon.
If things go in a bad direction, I'm guessing I can use ODIN 3.9 to reflash it on my device, and bring it back to life ?
(Then, optionally try the Kingo etc. rooting options again before the device updates?)

I'm guessing the details for the steps I need are on this forum somewhere, so pointing me to a link for a procedure is fine.

My take on the process is as follows (but not having done it before, I will need guidance) :
1) Backup Phone to PC---- What is your recommended app ?
2) Flash Unencrypted F/W - Use ODIN 3.9
ALL_VZW_I435VRUBOC1_I435VZWBOC1_1742578_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
I assume using the "system.img.ext4" file?
(Please point me to a link for the how and what fields to fill in for ODIN and files neeeded)
Do I need to restart device here ?
3) Flash an older Kernel - Use Odin again
Where do I get the Kernel and which one do you recommend ?
ODIN settings ?
4) Restart the device, and hope it boots into the Lock Screen or Setup Wizard ?
5) Turn off F/W updates - (Not sure how to do this)
6) Restore the backed up device data (from #1)

Found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2378022

So I will try Helium for the backup part.

Another fan

I've had this phone for awhile but have been trying to install custom recovery/ rom for the past few days and haven't been getting anywhere. Looks like I wasn't the only one. I've got a SCH-I435 Verizon branded, GSM with Cricket. I can root via saferoot or Kingo but can not load a recovery or rom with Odin (FAIL! (Auth)) or heimdall (Error: Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence). My last phone was a GS2 that I flashed numerous roms & recovs on so I have some experience, glad to be a tester if needed.

Rooted on 4.4.2!!!

I just downloaded the Kingoroot app onto my phone not expecting it to actually work since nothing else has, but it worked!!! I didn't believe it at first, but I was able to even log into root on a terminal emulator!!!

EDIT: I installed GSAM Root Companion and when I rebooted I noticed that it said custom and showed an unlocked padlock, I thought this meant it might mean an unlocked bootloader, though someone else tells me otherwise.
