from what i understand, when haret is booted the android system files are loaded onto the volatile memory and only a few modules remain on the sd card, leading to minimal access to tthe sd card for normal operations.

so my question is, apart from saving a few seconds when haret reads the files off the sd at boot, why do people suggest booting and running from NAND will help battery? especially as some modules may be accessed from the sd card when we have NAND versions?

I think at the moment the SD card is still used a lot as all data not loaded is transfered to and from the SD all the time. Only time will tell if it does help but if not will be getting a desire hd

I'm sorry for my english. I thing the problem now is the battery driver isn't optimized for Android, In fact, there are some tricks in wm to improve the battery life.

i also read that these tweaks dropped the quadrant score in android by 500, so not quite a perfect solution.

Not all the drivers have been ported towards HD2 yet and I agree the battery performance may remain comparable to what we have now.

However, the overall system performance will be much better definitely

but WHY will the overall system performance definitely be much better?

Nand is probably not going to improve battery life or speed much. It's only going to speed up the boot up time significantly. That's why I've always wondered why everyone is so intent on having nand made before other drivers and problems are fixed. If devs had spent their time on that instead of nand, then we would probably have a much better android right now.

No matter what NAND will be faster. If the modules are accessed through volatile memory and a little through SD card then why does the phone get warmer when you are using android?? The OS is constantly reading/writing from the SD card. people see performance increases based on the class of the SD card.

Think about it this way, the NAND would be equivalent to an internal harddrive and the SD card a usb flash drive. If there wasnt any performance difference, phone companies wouldnt even bother with NAND and would just sell phones with only SD cards.

Then how you explain HD2 is second in I/O Quadrant Advanced benchmark, just behind Droid X, leave the rest in dust?

Why would it get hot from writing/reading SD cards?
the heat is from the CPU, isn't it?

The fact is NAND is not going to have significanty faster or have significantly better battery life. In fact I would put money on the differences being basically negligible.

I wouldn't be surprised if the first NAND builds are much worse than what we have right now through haret.exe, at least until all the new bugs in the drivers needed for NAND are worked out.

Booting from NAND is a cool and advanced thing for the developers have fun playing around with setting up, but for the end user there will probably not be much of a difference at all. Someone mentioned it before, but I think android would be much better if the devs had focused on improving it instead of wasting time with NAND

What you people seem to forget is that WE use THEIR work...
The developers are playing around with a new toy for their enjoyment and challenge, we just get to benefit from their work. If you want to complain about buggy systems then learn how to program and build your own version of android. I suspect you'd get mail from irate end users too complaining about how this or that doesn't suit them.
Thank the guys making the roms, forget about this or that bug that has been reported or you've been told about (bug reporting isn't complaining, its the whingers who just make useless complaints, for example "camera doesn't work" when its stated on the thread) and quit complaining how the developement isn't going your way...

Thanks to all the Guys who make these builds possible to use on our devices....
