Yep, but it may read that way becuase the Focus is the only phone that has an accessible card slot. I'm hopefull a patch would benefit the HD7 as well.

Good point.
It would be great if what's happened with the Focus and the seemingly large number of people upgrading their cards anyway have kind of forced Microsoft's hand to work on supporting it better within the OS.... we can only hope.

hi,

i changed my card yesterday for a 32 Gb Sandisk class 2 and it is all working allright for me...i took me about 5 minutes...

I have a question..did you guys tried to use the original 16 Gb card from HD7.? When I put the card in to my pc... it is not working... I can't access the data..i can't format the card... It looks like its locked or something...

I just tried the 32 Gb card I used in HD7 and its the same.... NOT WORKING..

Yeah, that's correct.
You can't read or use the cards after WP7 has formatted and striped them.

Or at least you can't yet...

Ok guys need a bit of help if you can...

I've got my Sandisk card now but I cannot get the phone to properly reset and run the first setup after inserting it.
I've tried reset by buttons as well as from about your phone menu but it always just boots back to tiles without running the initial setup.
Checking the settings it shows it's not picking up the card.

Take the card out and reset it and I get the initial setup again.

Any ideas?

Right this is my giving up on this for now
Apologies to anyone waiting on my performance comparison video.

After my dead Kingston card the Sandisk card I got instead arrived and was marked as Class 4 (!?!). Needless to say the phone did not recognise this at all hence my post above so I'm now 2 cards tried and 2 cards failed - I just hope the returns go OK otherwise I'm seriously out of pocket!

I will probably have another go nearer Xmas unless anyone here is willing to sell me a 32GB Sandisk card which they have tried in their HD7 and can 100% confirm it works. I'm quite prepared to pay the going rate. If so drop me a message!

Sounds like you got a fake sandisk card. I've read about people getting these when ordering from small dealers. I want to order one to upgrade my HD7, but I wasn't going to order it from amazon after I saw that amazon doesn't directly sell the card and it comes from a marketplace dealer. I may go to Newegg to order one, but its quite a bit more money (but it should be legitimate). Anyone here purchased a legitimate 32gb sandisk card and if so, from where?

Yeah that seems to be the case but I did order it from Amazon directly, I know the default seller is a third party but I paid a few pounds more and changed the seller to Amazon themselves.

Oh well, would be good to hear where people have got their legitimate cards from.

ok it seems the HD7 really cant use the Kingston cards at all. It worked in the pc, once added into the HD7, the phone simply hangs on the install for ages. I cant even get past the language choice. Buying a sandisk today.

So to summarize:

- Kingston 32gb Class 4 cards do NOT work

Is there any way to get the cards working again for windows once it was in the phone?

this worries me ... i've got my kingston today. Is it truly a kingston problem or is it something like "too much memory to allocate" for wp7 ? I'm looking forward for your sandisk test. thx

It sounds like pencilcase had the exact same problem as I did with the Kingston card in that the setup was incredibly slow, menus wouldn't completely load and the 'installing apps' stage at the end never completed.

I would think this backs up what Microsoft have said about the performance requirements of the cards beyond simply what class they are and more down to burst speeds and random access etc. It's obvious the Kingston cannot keep up and as a result WP7 cannot use it.

I'm sure you all know this official statement: KB2450831 (Sorry I'm not allowed to post external links) But still the question is, what does MS understand with "Windows Phone 7 Compliant SD Card". Anyone able to figure out what the requirements are ?

I don't think any specific info has been released as yet, just the standard "refer to your carrier" response.
This makes sense to be honest because it is now obvious WP7 has higher than average requirements for its cards and there really is no way of ensuring users get hold of the correct cards short of creating a "certified for Windows Phone 7" certification.
With the known reliability and performance issues across cards in the market anyway I'm sure Microsoft and the carriers have been in the same boat as us of testing cards and finding them unusable.

I think that's the way forward personally but it obviously takes time to get in place and get the cards tested.
Microsoft have probably been caught out by the numbers of people swapping cards after they have always said not to and even the carrier tested cards/devices having problems.

Time will heal all...

In case that my HD7 is already open, I will give it a try. But before I will do some performance test with Crystal DiskMark, so we will know some facts. (Especially if it works :) ) Do you remember where the card was made? ( I read some articel about huge performance differences between Japan/China manufactured cards) I will share the results ... wish me luck

I've just looked and the Kingston is made in Japan.
