It depends on where you're coming from and you should always follow the full instructions.
Chances are in this case that you need to rewrite partition.
PS.: no need for caps.
Umm GB stock is 2.3.5 - You'll need to follow their instructions as it needs to rebuild partition.
Flashing Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 is most likely your first step. After doing a nandroid backup that is.
Sir. i flashed slimrom previously before my phone got into a bootloop while trying to fix my EFS. does flashing cyanogenmod first help preserve my EFS?
Am I the only guy around here who updated from stock éclair by rooting, installing ROM manager, installing clockworkmod, and just flashing serendipity 6 before CM9 ? This is believe it or not the whole story. Still, do what he said. There are multiple guides around here. As for WHY you should upgrade, I believe there is a simple answer: because we can and because it's more feature rich and faster.

To backup your efs folder, get a root explorer (ei; ES File Explorer) and copy it somewhere safe.
Flashing CM first is for good measure.
You're missing a step in there, you flashed the GB bootloaders at some point between eclair and CM9.
Also, ROM manager doesn't support our phone... do NOT use it!
