I think that it is pretty clear by now that the battery has nothing to do with the problem.

Some people have had success fixing their wifi by putting pressure on the chip with a small piece of plastic, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149833

That makes me think that it is definitely a lead problem, not the chip itself.

I haven't heard about anyone resoldering the chip, but if you try, please tell us the result!

I don't have a rework station I feel comfortable doing that type of work with, only through hole type of work.

I could buy a $300 rework station and try it, but it's been so long and I have so little experience with this type of work that should it fail, I would probably think my work was shoddy first and foremost.

With the problem being so common, has nobody tried? I've seen a few comments here and there, but never more than " rework did not solve problem." No explanation of what exactly was tried and failed. All posts from people very inactive in the Atrix community here.

I have boards I could send somebody if they have the equipment and experience to properly try it. I have also seen the chip itself sell for like 10 bucks on eBay.

With all the devs working on the new kernel, extending the life of what I think is one of the best android phones ever made, is nobody able or willing to try it? Does somebody have a logical reason for thinking the attempt would be futile?

for those who don't know where to find batteries and have soldering tools, check your wrist watches open it up and you might get lucky. Those who's power button don't work any more, don't repurchase a power button just yet, but inspect the middle flex cable inside the phone that connects to the 'Power and Earpiece' which is situated in the middle and more than likely the prime suspect, because it faces alot stress when opening the phone that might cause tiny unsuspected tears in the cable and also check the other 2 while your at it. :good: :p

chances are they used lead free solder which always seems to result in this happening due to the fact that the conductivity is less, just look at ps3 and 360 with micro chip issue due to the lead free solder
