What we need is for someone to make a UEFI bootloader,

The HTC HD2 recently got the beginnings of a WP8 port and the 1st step was to make a UEFI bootloader, which they did.

Making a new bootloader is an order of magnitude more difficult then even porting drivers, so we cant ever realistically expect it for the S7

challenge acce...... actually f*** that, there are better devices that will support it like the HTC one X for example

The HD2 is able to boot winRT now via MAGLDR (MAGLDR was also how the HD2 was able to boot WP8).

for both winRT and WP8: it boots, but nothing works. There are no drivers, winRT's potentially more flexable though, as it's like windows in it has generic drivers bundled in.

If we ever got a replacement bootloader with UEFI, we could likely get winRT to boot, it might not change the fact that we'd still not have many drivers, but very least it might be on par with our CM9/10 ports (core features work to the point you can try some stuff/fairly useful, may never be fully completed)

It would make more sense that winRT doesnt care what the bootloader does, it might simply be that the bootloader requires secure boot.
As in: winRT's boot path is whitelisted by the bootloader, but winRT would boot anyway without secure boot, winRT itself doesnt care.

Doesnt make it any easier, making a new bootloader is likely the most difficult thing you can do (all artifical limitations else aside)

A idea I had to getting win8 running was to install backtrack5 and then run win8 on a VM through vituralbox inside BT5. Only things stopping me at the moment from testing it is getting the mount points swapped around for the system and SD card; because BT5 the VirtualBox and win8 would all need about 17-18GB of room total. As soon as I get them swapped and everything installed I'll give it a try and report back.
The ARM version of Windows 8 when extracted is only about 4-5 GB ;)

In my opinion Windows 8 even the RT version is possible but there are so many issues with the kernel (even though RT is hybrid kernel) and drivers that nobody really would want to start rewriting the whole kernel to make a closed source OS...just not worth it. Even though I REALLY curious as to if someone will actually do this :) ..I'll keep an eye out on this thread.
