Hey folks,
Do you think that our lovely Titan will receive an official update?

HTC Titan theoratically should be getting uptil WP8.5 or WP9 unless those version will need extra hardware to run. Microsoft has sold major phones on contract bases. Contracts in Europe and USA are 2 years. Thus, Microsoft would ideally try and not be Android. Instead it will be more like iPhone where iPhone 3G got uptil iOS 5 but runs a little choppy now after 3 updates.Hey folks,

Yes, 8 will be an update, it's not going to be a new device exclusive thing. The Titan is going to get it, as was already said in this thread. And I would not be surprised if every windows phone gets it. Every single one.Forgive me for coming into this conversation late then;
Is the plan that Windows 8 will be an update available for anyone with a Windows 7.5 device? In other words, if i go out and buy the Titan this afternoon (most likely) and 8 comes out in a months time, il be able to load 8 on to the device? Or simply that new devices will come with 8 installed?
It's my understanding that Windows 8 and WP8 will both use a different kernel. So the CE based kernel in WP7 will not be compatible. Not sure how they'd handle the transition, but it would be nice to be able to have WP8 on the Titan.
What I meant is that I have heard WP8 will use the actual Windows 8 kernel, as in, the desktop and mobile version will use the full desktop kernel. I'm not sure how that would translate to an OTA update for us, or if that would even be possible without a tethered full wipe and reflash of the device.Yes, 8 will be an update, it's not going to be a new device exclusive thing. I don't think this is true. Any of it. First of all, WP7 uses CE 7 as the kernel and it still has support for WM6 (CE 6) applications. I haven't heard anything about a CE 8, and I highly doubt that they would move on to a CE 8 kernel so early in Window's Phone history. I could be wrong. But even if CE 8 is the new kernel, it will have zero impact on compatibility. It has already been stated that WP8 will run all WP7 apps (and frankly I don't think this even needed to be mentioning; to drop support two iterations in a row would be the death of the platform).
