I recently started a thread at the XBMC forums about this but it looks like I'm not going to get any useful answers, at least so far. So instead of being guilty of cross-posting, I will just post the link so people can read the OP and respond to it here :)mad: the spambot said I couldn't post any links yet so just do a search on this title and Google will give you the link in the first hit):

XBMC for Android B&N Nook HD+ installation and performance

I think I will get more useful answers here.

Basically I want to buy a Nook HD+ for the sole purpose of putting XBMC for Android on it. I want to be sure if is worth the effort before I actually buy one. I am hoping there are people here who have done this and can relate their experiences.

My main questions are:

1. Do you have to root to be able to side-load the XBMC .apk? It seems that for many devices this is no longer necessary but I am willing to do it if it is necessary or can improve performance.

2. What is viewing 720p and 1080p streaming and local content like? Is it acceptable or unbearably choppy?

3. Can many XBMC add-ons be installed or is there only a limited subset? It looks like this port is relatively new.

I have been running XBMC on my HD+ for several months. I'm currently running the alpha version (called Gotham) which is due to go into Beta in the next month or so.

Anyway, as far as I can tell, there is not a limit to how many add ons you can install or use. Although some don't seem to work with the alpha version, but that should be expected. I've noticed that 1080p content seems to buffer quite a bit while streaming, but it runs fine locally.

I don't think you have to root, but you do probably need to install the extra features package that leapinlar has in order to install from other sources - can't remember what it's called but I'm sure you'll have no problem finding it.

I've been happy with how XBMC runs on the hd+, I don't think you should have any problems with it. In fact it may even be better with streaming HD content than it used to be. I just haven't been using it for that lately. I usually download and watch from the SDcard. I guess it depends partially on what sources you use.

Thanks for your reply about your experiences. I didn't get any email notice of your reply or I would have answered earlier. I don't want to play files from the SD card, only streaming content. As far as the extra features package, don't you need to root before you can install it?
