I recently started a thread at the XBMC forums about this but it looks like I'm not going to get any useful answers, at least so far. So instead of being guilty of cross-posting, I will just post the link so people can read the OP and respond to it here
mad: the spambot said I couldn't post any links yet so just do a search on this title and Google will give you the link in the first hit):
XBMC for Android B&N Nook HD+ installation and performance
I think I will get more useful answers here.
Basically I want to buy a Nook HD+ for the sole purpose of putting XBMC for Android on it. I want to be sure if is worth the effort before I actually buy one. I am hoping there are people here who have done this and can relate their experiences.
My main questions are:
1. Do you have to root to be able to side-load the XBMC .apk? It seems that for many devices this is no longer necessary but I am willing to do it if it is necessary or can improve performance.
2. What is viewing 720p and 1080p streaming and local content like? Is it acceptable or unbearably choppy?
3. Can many XBMC add-ons be installed or is there only a limited subset? It looks like this port is relatively new.
