[Q] xoom 4G LTE WAY slow on EOS 3 ... upgrade?

Hi I have the origional xoom 4G LTE, running EOS 3. Its been turned off for many months. When I turn it on now, its way slow. Like ... click on google play, count to 7, then see play open up. Click on web browser, count to 3, wait for brower to come up. Way slower than its been in the past.

1) Anyone have any ideas why this is so slow?
2) Is there are newer / faster android version that I should move to? I'm most interested in something that is very stable, not nightlies.
