Yeh that's pretty fair I guess. How do you think it would manage if converted to MP4? I can do it on my 950 when I get home and send you it if you like? I'd not mind converting the whole lot if it played in the stock player.
You shouldn't obsess about a video like this playing through hardware. There will be little difference in quality. Believe me, I am very obsessive about these things myself.

There are some things that will benefit from re-encoding. This isn't one.

The purpose of hardware decoding is to handle processor-intensive, high bit-rate files. The XOOM's CPU with dual core A9's is already overkill for the type of file that you want to play. Just play it with RockPlayer in Software mode and save yourself the time and trouble.

Edit: To answer your question though: If you really wanted to play it as MP4 then yes, you could probably re-encode it in seconds on your machine, and yes it would play with hardware, but probably with little visible difference.

I think I'm misrepresenting my intentions here though. My problem is not hardware/software decoding it's that I don't want to use multiple players or have to specifically choose to software decode, I want to click a video and play it. That's my concern.

Oh, I understand.

Yes, if you encode all your videos to MP4, and set RockPlayer to hardware mode by default, then yes you could use one player for everything and not need to select mode.

Happy to help. Just to confirm: The Divx file you sent me re-encodes in Handbrake just fine for hardware playback on the XOOM. Tried it and it plays well with sound in Moboplayer, Rockplayer and the system player. So if you want trouble-free one-click playback and you don't mind re-encoding, then you will have no problem.

That's great to know, thanks so much for trying that out, I appreciate the effort.

EDIT: Oh, forgot to ask, can you please let me know which profile you use on handbrake, I remember there was a file round here somewhere for a preset?
