Anyone noticed that our devices give only on avg 140 mb of free ram even on cm it gives 190 mb
while on samsung devices i have noticed thy give 280mb of ram even on the official blotware version
and also on my xperia play on cm 9 i get 240 mb of free ram but on sola it hardly surpasses 190 mb ?? using ram booster

As far as I know 124mb are allocated to the gpu, so the "visible" ram is 388mb. The ram for the gpu gives more performance in gaming.
(Correct me if I'm wrong)

And the problem is?
I got no problem with 140–160 mb on my Xperia S. I can only feel it getting slow when it install a update for an app. Else it can run 20+ apps at the same time.

RAM is a resource that should be used. The more free RAM, less of it is actually being used. If the system needs memory it will get it by freeing RAM from background process. Cmom we have ICS, don't tell me you still free RAM with killers. Let the system worry about memory.

But from my experience if you open ram hungry apps it slow downs due to less free ram.
All will be affected like slow opening time, lagging, more time to open web pages in browser etc etc.

The problem is the crap peformance of some Sony ICS phones. Did you know that some mobile networks have *refused* to offer the Sony ICS update to their customers because 'the performance is so bad'? If you Google it, you'll find it, I know the Spanish-owned network O2 (Telefonica) is one network that decided this. That would be the problem.

I don't know a lot about this, but I believe this is true. I read a Google Android employee say this. However, when I contacted Sony about my Sola being slow, they told me it's probably too little free RAM and that I should consider a task manager. Imagine!

I also think its crappy performance with 512mb ram Xperia devices. Its really funny to get lags and extreme slowness even in phone dialer, or when u get a call while using some app..
In my case I can't imagine using Sola without 2 task killer apps, one is Go task manager for it's "Advanced Killer" feature, and the other is Ram Booster for it's overlay small widget that appears on all apps + games.
And I also get my Sola slow as hell after sometime using Browser or Chrome..really disappointing...

To say the least.. I didn't feel that I'm using a fast reliable device, and I'm sure it's a Sony or ICS thing coz I've used other devices from other brands that was really much faster even with the same 512mb ram like iPhone 4...no compare..

So to be able to use Sola flawlessly with multitasking u have to:
1-restart ur phone dialy or every couple of days!
2-don't use 99% of widgets!
3-use task killers!
4-don't even think of using Live wallpapers!

SuperCharging will help a little.
Search it here on xda. SuperCharger.
It helped me a lot but funny thing is that i still have problems with calling or answering a call! It's shameful for a company like sony!
Xperia Sola sucks! Don't buy it.

Sorry for my weakness on English!

I just tried CyanogenMod9 on the Sola (I've tried other ROMS) and the CM is unbelievably fast...I almost thought it was impossible that Sola could run this fast. This makes it totally clear to me that it is the stock Sony apps, UI etc. that absorbs so much RAM. However, I really don't like stock Google Android stuff, I think the audio is too nerdy and boring, the apps ugly and not so intuitive. If you have a sharp eye for detail and appreciate elegance, I have to say the Sony ROM is the ROM to use. The latest Sony ICS update .54 is much faster than previously. :fingers-crossed:

I've never used CM9, maybe I will when I have free time.

Agree about .54 , its kinda faster, but not for long..as you still have to reboot every couple of days, and phone still struggling while surfing the internet with stock browser or chrome.

I don't have to reboot my sola unless I need to flash something or something I installed needs a reboot, like my ringtones I put into system\media folder. It runs fast and I have had no problems with it except few minutes ago when my power button didn't work but I think that has to do with my case as it worked when I rubbed the button.
