I think I won't wait and I'll just read reviews but lemme ask you.. what's so bad in HTC's rom at all or in the boot loader? (not that I know what it is.. never had Anroid so this is going to be the first hopefully)
If you've never had an Android device, you don't know the benefits of having it rooted.

I'll just say, the experience with an unrooted device is limited at best. Several apps I use won't even function without root access. So without root it's a non-starter for me.

HTC ROMs always have bloat and since I'm with T-Mobile USA, they'll add yet another layer of their own bloat on top of the bloat HTC includes on their own. I like a ROM to at minimum have most of the T-Mobile USA bloatware removed and any HTC bloat that can be removed without cutting features I enjoy using. Also, HTC will continue making Sense updates beyond v3.0, that will be on other new HTC devices and won't "officially" get to the Sensation till later. Being able to load custom ROMs I'll be able to load up updates that "I" want ;) .

I'm not sure what people are all freaked out about - the MT4G and G2 didn't get unlocked for several weeks after their release. Give the XDA masters a chance to work their magic :)
Nothing to do with being freaked out. Some of us have apps that simply won't work without root. So for some of us, the device simply won't be "functional" till it's rooted.

I'm thinking about getting it day 1 but since the UK get's it first I'll make my day 1 decision based on the reviews of the UK version.

The only thing that I don't like about the phone is the fact that it doesn't have a NFC chip. But it's not too much of an issue for me. I can live without it.

Funny how the NFC chip is that big of a deal to so many people... I personally can't find a practical use for it - at least none that would apply to me.

Nfc is bigger around certain parts of the world just not the USA. It isn't a big a deal though by the time it actually gets really useful this phone will be far outdated.

Yea I agree we are not in a stage that it's a big deal but if you think about it, most people end up upgrading and tying in to a 2 year contract so you stuck to that device. Now compare that to the new devices coming out now that have it and are a bit more "future proof". This was also sort of a killer for the Nexus S the fact that it wasn't that "future proof" as the Nexus 1 was.

The lack of NFC won't affect my decision on getting the device tho. Not a deal breaker.

For us T-Mobile USA customers, we'll (likely) all need to change over to AT&T compatible devices in the future anyway. (In probably 2 or 3 years.) The Sensation is not "future proof" in terms of AT&T network compatibility. So I'm not thinking at all about features not yet in wide use in the USA such as NFC.

There have already been reports of an NFC ready slightly upgraded model of the Sensation coming later this year.

Yea true but TBH I don't see that deal going through.

Yea I heard about those updated phones. Hopefully they make it to T-Mob. I'm probably going to buy the Sensation and not sign a contract and wait till December when my contract expires and see what path to take.

In a seperate thread some folks who claim to be with HTC and T-Mobile said $499 will be the off contract price. $199 with contract.
Yay that's the price point I want! Beats the $350 I paid for my TP2 when that came out. The $260 off contract I paid for my HD2 off of craigslist for a NIB phone was even better.

Excuse my ignorance but what's this G2x that people keep referring to?
It's the LG Optimus 2x or G2x for tmous

I bet this one will be unlocked shortly or at least prior to the June 8th projected release on T-Mobile in the US. I have a GX2 but have also had issues so I am returning it and turning my Verizon no contract phone back on which I am of course really (NOT) looking forward to.

Oh well I actually like the construction if the Sensation much better. I am just hoping the positives on it I have heard are true, and of course that the negatives are not. The only thing I am really worried about is the processor. Then of course I have heard that it is a new one and not the same one in the EVO as well.

The product hard ware model numbers seen to implicate that. As far as it goes I have not seen anyone with a review of the actual hard device that will be released on the US market with T-Mobile on the 8th of June yet. I do hope to see it soon though.

As far as it goes the release conference was yesterday. The Samsung one is either today (Galaxy S2) or was yesterday as well. I am about to go look for those two as well as hopefully some inside information on both in a few.

Wow Darnell_Chat you are close to me. Either way as far as it goes while the At&t merger may be bad if and when it happens I am looking at it (or at least hoping) in more of a possibilities outlook. As far as it goes if I grab the Sensation on T-Mobile I will be able to upgrade or change some what early. At&t say's they will give a comparable device.

Being that this is one of the (or will be) top devices released in the US right now I would imagine a replacement if and when needed would have to be pretty good.

From what I have heard directly the contract terms on contract's signed with T-mobile will be honored by At&t. So if the Senate, FCC, and DJ which are grilling them right now let the merger happen, and when it actually does happen, well then we will all get new top of the line Android phones (hopefully with some choice).

I guess if not they would also have to release us (T-Mobile users) early as well, if we did not find it to be in our best interest to stay with the combined At&t/T-mobile. As far as it goes my brother and sister in law have been with At&t in Atlanta for years, and never seem to have issues with them either.

Atlanta or North Ga up to Chattanooga for some reason always seems to be on the early side of everything for all cellular/wireless providers (At&t, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Metro PCS and all there side brands Virgin/Cricket etc) in the area and or country.

I know we have had both Wimax since day one, and LTE here for quite a while. Of course the devices have not been available to take advantage of it on anyone but Sprint in the US for over a year now.

Overall it all moves so fast now as well.
