can do a mega wipe on my phone and then directly restore my nandroid backup or do i need to boot up a rom first and only then do a restore???

if you do a mega wipe, there is no rom to boot up to...
after a mega wipe you will stay in recovery and you will be able to flash a rom or nandroid, but it has to be on external SD as internal will be wiped!
