QI Charge coil?

The main thing that's missing for me on this is the same thing that was missing on my XT1032, a QI charging ability. I was able to add a charge coil inside the XT1032 by making a very minor cutout in the bottom of the back to let the cable out and loop it to the microusb.
The 2015 version has a small panel over the area of the microusb, with 3 screws. At first sight it looks as though this is to make replacing the port easy, but if you take them off, you find it's just over a metal cover attached to the main board. I don't really see what it's for, but it might make a convenient space to loop the cable from the charge coil into, assuming there's enough space to fit it. I've ordered one from China, so it will be a couple of weeks before I find out:)

Yes, is for that or can be used for that. Look for a teardown video that shows that. USB and audio can be easily repaired and moded.

Actually, while the little plastic cover comes off easily by removing the 3 screws, the usb port is on the other side of the board and the back is protected by a metal cover. It doesn't look easy to remove without a full stripdown. The only thing of interest under the plastic cover is what looks like a reset button, but I haven't pressed it!
I've now added a charge coil from my old Moto G and left the internal cover off so the space can be used to fold the cable. I also had to carefully trim the top of the coil module to provide good clearance to the camera. But it's all in and working OK now with the cover fully closed.

Unlike the old Moto G, this one will charge from the coil OK without needing to install the kernel hack app to enable this to work.

Mine came in boring white from Amazon, but I bought the Oxford blue back cover and I think it looks really good.

Please, post some pics!
I didn't open mine, but in this video seems that is easier

Lets see if I have it...It looks like you did not remove anything but back custom plastic cover of the Moto G3. You did not bother the 3 screw plate. Correct?
I did take the plate off to give a bit more space to fold the cable into. It doesn't serve any useful function. There is a need to keep the coil lower down than the centre on this phone because of the moulding with the Motorola badge, so there is some spare cable length on the coil which needs to be folded up tidily.

Well I ordered charging coil A, found a T4 screwdriver. I will be wireless charging next week. Thanks again alpine101.
By the way I may have opened a can of worms...The main reason I did not get Nexus 5X was no wireless charging. :cyclops:

So will the micro usb port be free or do we have to remove the coil for it to be free? cant really figure out from the pic. And also would you please give a link for the charging coil please :)

Hey alpine101...How long does it take to charge, say from 50% or so?

I ordered this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H7FJX7M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Amazon had to reorder my coil...It seems to have gotten lost in the mail or something.

If you want to use USB you must take the head out of usb port, not necessarily remove charging coil totally.

I've seriously been looking at this for some time. I'm using a Tudia case and I think I could put it between the case and the phone. I just worry that since the case is still thicker than the phone shell, it won't be able to charge through it.

With previous phone (Nexus 5) in otter box commuter, I was able to charge on Nokia DT-900 charging plate.
Videos I've seen are charging through different cases.

Just received my Qi charging coil. It took almost 3 weeks, but I got it.
I use the directions from alpine101. It works just fine so far.
Using Nokia DT-900 charging plate with coil inside of Moto G3 back cover and TPU case.

It takes a little over 2 hours to fully charge with the usb adapter. I use a premium "smart charger" 2.4A output. Moto OEM is 550mA so g3 draws ~500mA max. How long does it take to charge with the pad, a day?

I have never worried about the water-smartphone mix.
It has the feature but how many will actually have the phone near water?
I removed the 3 screw plate inside, folded excess tail, I closed the back with all snaps. No bulging that eye can see.

I just put mine on the charging pad at night, and its 100% in the morning.

I have mine near water all the time...every time it rains, when I wash my hands, if I use it while I'm in the shower (not in there with me...but steam can damage it too), when I'm cooking, and it's a nice thing to have when your idiot friend spills their drink at the bar.
