1.) can anyone give me their experience on siyah? I was afraid that it might cause a drain in battery since I heard its only on beta

2.) how easy is it to switch back to stock kernel or any other if i flashed a custom kernel.

3.) can anyone point me to the tutorial of flashing the kernel with odin? (we use odin so that it wont increase the counter right?)

4.) how easy is it to update the custom kernel?

5.) how big of a drain is it to have tasker and gmd control running in my background?

6.) Is it dangerous to enable usb debugging?

7.) should i just install setcpu and undervolt with tasker instead of a custom kernel?

sorry if this sounds a bit noobish, im really paranoid of bricking. ive already rooted my phone successfully

Siyahkernel is an absolute beast and gives me great battery life.

2.) how easy is it to switch back to stock kernel or any other if i flashed a custom kernel.

Just as easy as flashing anything else.

3.) can anyone point me to the tutorial of flashing the kernel with odin? (we use odin so that it wont increase the counter right?)

Don't really care about the counter so not much help on this one.

4.) how easy is it to update the custom kernel?

See #2

5.) how big of a drain is it to have tasker and gmd control running in my background?

None as far as I've noticed.

6.) Is it dangerous to enable usb debugging?

Nope.

7.) should i just install setcpu and undervolt with tasker instead of a custom kernel?

Don't even need to undervolt tbh, this phone already has awesome battery life, but I'd say you have more benefits with a custom kernel.

can you give me instruction on how to flash?
Go to gokhanmoral.com and download the Odin version. (Make sure you get the kernel for S3 not for S2)

Turn off the phone, then go to Download mode. (Keep Vol-Down and Home pressed, then press Power until the screen turns on)
Follow the on-screen instructions (meaning, press Vol-Down again to confirm)

Attach the phone via USB-cable to the computer

Open Odin (Version 1.85) on the computer, and load Siyah Kernel in the PDA section.
Do not touch the rest, and press "Flash".

Done

Hi,
You can use Mobile Odin, maybe more conveniant for you for flashing stuff: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDMsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5tb2JpbGVvZGluLnBybyJd

There is also a free version (but limited) and a guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899

For experience with Siyah kernel... works realy great for me but it depends of your use, settings, etc, etc... try and see by yourself. A kernel will works great for a user and not for another...
The different feedbacks of users can help you to make a decision, but it is only you who can find which kernel is best for you by testing. And a kernel is not like a rom, less settings (or even none) to set each time you flash a kernel, so you can flash easily all the different kernels for test.

Yes you can undervolt a kernel, but I don't understand the relationship between Tasker and SetCPU... You adjust the voltage on the fly with SetCPU so I don't really see the point to made a task with tasker for this, or I'm wrong?
And all (or almost?) the kernel for the SIII are already undervolt so more undervolting can cause some issues and for battery life with undervolting... you'll not win more extra battery... a little maybe, for me it's useless. The best for me is underclocking if you want to save more battery life.

The best way is to go in the dev section and read careffuly the different kernel threads mainly the instructions of the dev then the changelogs/feedbacks ;)

And don't be afraid to brick your device... or if you really fear... don't flash anything... read carefully the instructions, think to make regular Nandroid backup in case of something goes wrong and if you flash a custom kernel and begin to play with voltage or overclock with an app like SetCPU, never "set/apply on boot" a setting before you sure that all is fine (by testing for a day or two with YOUR usage).

:)
