EDIT: Use the attached .cab file to fix your QuickGPS. This restores it to hard reset state.

EDIT 2: WTF?!?!? The .cab was made the same way I always make them yet won't install. If anyone knows how to fix, lemme know...

:(

If I try to manually update QuickGPS, I get an error message of, "Connection Failed. Please try again later." I have never been able to get it to connect. Does anyone know how the registry settings work? Does it just try them all in order until it gets the settings it's looking for? With the exception of one link, all the rest try to connect to xtra1.gpsonextra.net.

According to this XDA thread, the settings in the registry should be:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\0\IP -> htcscm13.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\0\1\IP -> htctsvr.htc.com.tw
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\1\0\IP -> www.htcusainc.com
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\0\IP -> service.htceurope.com
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\2\1\IP -> ftp.htceurope.com

But in the registry of the 4550, I have:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]

looks the same exept for the options you have checked that I don't (remind when expired).

I'm curious why the old settings had various HTC sites and the new settings are all the same one (anyone ever heard of redundancy?)...

Thanks for the response. May have something to do with my connection settings. Everthing syncs and works on the web though...

hmmm.....

UPDATE

When you manually update, it downloads two files to your temp folder:

CLM_SITE_LIST_UPDATE.INI
packedEphemeris.ee

but as soon as the meter hits 100%, you get the error message "Connection failed. Please try again later"

If you delete the 2 files and wait a little, you can download them again but it always fails immediately after.

So I still have for

Download time: Not yet downloaded
Valid time: Expired

Anybody have any ideas?

thanks,

The QuickGPS worked on my Kaiser earlier in the week as well and now it is showing that it has never been downloaded and expired.

Manual connection attempts also result in connection failed and try again later messages. I think something is wrong with the servers.......

I don't think so. If you check your \Temp folder, you should see the two files I mentioned above. If you move those files to your \Windows folder, (make sure QuickGPS isn't open) you will then see it is current again.

It's getting the data but it's not putting it in the windows folder. It fails on that action thus returning an error message.

I've been working on this for a while now. :(

I hate to say this, but maybe it's time for the hard reset and test this before loading your restore? Knock on wood, I've tweaked the heck out of mine and QuickGPS is still doing it's thing without issue.

It appears to be a pretty common problem. When you google the error message you get a lot of hits on various sites. My Kaiser is bone stock with only a couple apps installed. I haven't even customized it that much.

I think it's gotta be something simple once it's found. Finding it on the other hand... :(

For anyone who's worked, would you mind using Mobile Registry Editor and export [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS] (none of the IP/Port stuff needed). Again, here's what mine has:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]
"curIP"=dword:00000000
"curRegion"=dword:00000002
"remind"=dword:00000000
"RemindTime"="00000000000000"
"actSync"=dword:00000001
"auto"=dword:00000001
"pwd"="Vl39Cjsvkwf"
"authname"="KWFVlUIJSV"
"ExpiredTime"=dword:000010e0
"INIFile"="CLM_SITE_LIST_UPDATE.INI"
"path"="/clm/"
"EEFile"="packedEphemeris.ee"
"Bias"=dword:fffffed4
"folder"="\Windows\"
"region"="US"
"INIDate"="20060531"
"NotifyID"=dword:00001960

It will download to the temp folder but not put it in the windows folder and fails everytime.

Thanks!

I have the same problem too on my french kaiser.
i did notice something weird though the first time it succeed to download, the validity was something around 7 days instead of the usual 3 days. Did anybody else noticed that ?
since then, same problem as everyone in here : sometimes i have connection failure, sometimes it shows a progress of the download and reaching the 100% i get the error.

I re-ran QuickGPS over WiFi this AM, using the registry settings I posted earlier in this thread. I got a new xtra.bin (the file containing the satellite info), and my registry settings were relatively unchanged (i.e. only the time values were changed, not the IP addresses, filenames, logon info, etc.); that suggests to me that the settings I posted earlier do work.

McHale, you might want to try changing your settings to match mine -- they work for me, so they might for you too.

Yup. Have to do that tonight. I may delete the whole entry and see what happens. :)

I plan on hard resetting at some point anyway...

OK... Needed to be done.

Reg settings after a hard reset. These settings are the same regardless if you allow customization to proceed:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]
"RemindTime"="02151010034724"
"Bias"=dword:fffffed4
"ExpiredTime"=dword:00002760

"region"="US"
"INIDate"="20060531"
"remind"=dword:00000001
"actSync"=dword:00000001
"auto"=dword:00000000
"NotifyID"=dword:00001960
"INIFile"=""
"path"=""
"EEFile"="xtra.bin"
"curRegion"=dword:00000000
"curIP"=dword:00000000
"pwd"="1"
"authname"="1"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS\SNTP]
"GettingTimeout"=dword:00001388
"Server3"="xtra3.gpsOneXTRA.net"
"Server2"="xtra2.gpsOneXTRA.net"
"Server1"="xtra1.gpsOneXTRA.net"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS\2]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS\2\1]

"IP"="xtra1.gpsonextra.net"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS\2\0]
"port"=dword:00000050
"IP"="xtra1.gpsonextra.net"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS\1]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS\1\1]

Yah for now. But don't forget, it worked fine the first time I tried it out of the box. I don't know how the config got changed in the first place which is still confusing for me.

So at the very least, I can create a .cab file from my reg export and see if it helps anyone else without hard resetting.

If anyone is willing to try the above reg settings to fix their QuickGPS, lemme know and I'll a .cab. Otherwise, all the settings are above and were captured IMMEDIATELY after a hard reset before any configurations and customizations took place.

ok, i'm changing manually my values in the reg with Resco Registry to see if it will works.
However can you clarify me:
for example, for "bias" you have =dword:fffffed4

in mine i have DWORD value and i have the choice between Hex or Dec. It is on Dec and the value is a simple "120".
This happen on several keys where you have complicated letters and i have "simple values". I guess this is just about a converstion stuff ?
or should i enter fffffed4 as a Hex ???
I just have no idea what this means
