Hack worked, high range bar, but exclamation mark and no connection

Hi,

The title says it all... Help!
I followed the instructions to the letter. I am actually in a small island near Bali and applying the hack was hard work...

Well I have a 820 and now can see a huge difference in connection range, but the connection has an H and a constant exclamation mark. Data is on, and everything worked before the hack. I am with telkocell.

Oh... Stock android just rooted with latest updates.

Is there anything I can do to fix it, other than restore the old state?

Thanks...

Merc.

Cancel that...

Hi,

Cancel that, I am an idiot.
I was lucky enough to run out of Internet credit in Indonesia while doing the hack. Hence the exclamation mark...

Works perfectly. It made a huge difference to me now. THANK YOU!

Hi,

Sorry about the noise. I just wanted to say a HUGE HUGE "thank you" to the modders who wrote this tutorial. I think it's awful that an hardware manufacturer would lock down hardware potential for "marketing" and "market segment" reasons. I love my Nexus 5, it will be my phone for a looong time (and then the Nexus 5s... and then we will see, it might be 8 years from now :D ).

Really, really thank you for the hard work and for putting this together so nicely.

Merc.

Can someone update the OP? The links are bad and one is full of malware (QPST)
I was able to get this working on my old stock D821 Nexus5 in the USA on T-Mobile (rooted, TWRP, and ElementalX kernel). Upon reboot it started up on H but then quickly switched over to LTE.

QPST (2.7.460) was found HERE
LG Diag Drivers (4.2) were found HERE

Hope this helps!

Thanks! This will help immensely. I didn't go through with the instructions because I did not know whether I could trust those files.

Can anyone help me out to get it done anywhere in Bengaluru. I am very much in need of enabling band 3 and band 40 in my D820. Is there any way of doing it in a simplified manner since I am bit confused with following the steps.
Thanks & regards,
Prashanth

Hi, i managed to enable LTE band 3 and 8 on my D820 before.
However, recently i had to repair my d820 and i replaced the D820 motherboard with a D821 motherboard (daughterboard and the other parts are the same).
Now i'm not getting LTE signals.
Do i redo this whole tutorial again and if i do, which files should i use?

Thanks in advance.

Help

I was pretty exited when i saw this forum but it didn't work. I have a D820 and i tried on CM13, stock 6.0.1, stock 4.4.2 and everytime was like the forum and the russian video describes (got the spc, com port) and when i reboot i get for a few seconds H+ then H, then the signal drops and goes back but no data just umts. No lte, and to get H+ i have to select 3g as desired network. I don't know where the towers are but i'm suposed to be on a 4g area and have a 4g simcard. I don't get it, i really wanted it to work but i doesn't on my nexus 5
I had LTE for two or three weeks but now this is happening to me. I restore EFS and made the process again but did not work.

*Using stock android 6.0.1 with Elementalx Kernel. Carrier uses band 3*

I got LTE. Thanks so much.

Only problem I noticed was in using QPST latest tool 2.7.460 in Windows 7. It failed opening with 'QPST server not working error', moving back to older version 2.7.422 solved this issue and I am on LTE now. Thanks again.

Great tutorial, i finally activated lte on my Nexus 5 d820.

I just want to make things clear to the folks discovering this tutorial late, and wonder if it'll work on Lollipop/Marshmallow or Nougat, yeah of course it works. I think the only thing u need is for ur kernel to support booting in diag mode and that's all.
I used the tutorial on lineageos 14.1.

And also If u are having troubles with the qpts app u should download the earlier version it works. That's all. Thanks to everyone that contributed.

I realize this post is extremely old but since you are on tmob can you tell me which bands you enabled?

On a general note, does anyone know how to find out which bands are in use by a given carrier in a particular market? Google and the T-Mobile site haven't turned up much on this regard. Perhaps some wiki or forum post that details various bands that carriers use in different markets?

I have an 820 which gets LTE fine in most locations but there are several places where my signal strength is quite low (including my home). I believe this increases my battery usage significantly. I get a stronger signal in these areas on 3g so I usually usually leave LTE disabled but I would love to find a better solution.

I was hoping that this method might be used to enable additional bands that T-Mobile uses in my area and therefore allow me to keep LTE on without major battery drain.

Has anyone had any luck hacking either n5 to use band 12? I have seen a couple posts in this thread that suggest it may be possible but nothing concrete. I would be willing to bet that if I could somehow get band 12 enabled I would get a fantastic signal everywhere.
