Hi all,

Why does the Nexus 5x with 2gb of ram have better ram management than the Moto g5 plus. I have an average of 500mb free when I look in the running services under developer options but on the Nexus 5x there are screenshots of 0.89gb of ram free. Even on my shield tablet I have an average ram usage of 1.2gb. Is there something which I can do to help the ram management and will flashing a custom rom help

Do you have a problem?

You misunderstand RAM management... Free RAM is wasted RAM, the kernel should use most to nearly all RAM and free it as needed. I would argue that that Nexus 5x is not properly utilizing the available RAM.

Not to mention, those stats are not accurate. These android devices use all the available RAM they have. Especially on devices that have 2-3gb RAM. There is a lot of things going on in RAM on these devices at any given time. It's what is being kept in RAM, or not that effects performance.

Do you have the 2,3 or 4gb variant of the Moto g5 plus. Just asking:)

4/64GB variant... And even though I have some (ok, a lot) of heartburn against Moto, it is probably my favorite phone of all time so far, except maybe the LG enV. :)
Lol. I was considering buying the LG g5 but I read the reviews and saw that it had major battery drain issues (with the stock rom of course lol) and it had bootlops but I went with Moto. I had a first generation Moto g, third generation and now I have the g5 plus.

As they told you, the more ram Android uses, the better. It's not like windows for instance.
I haven't had any problem so far related with ram usage, and I have the 2gb version.

I came from the S8 and I actually like this phone better. I even had the pixel XL before that and knowing what I know now I'd still pick this phone. I have the 32/2 variant. For me the only downside of this phone is the camera but it's usable in everyday scenarios. I learned pretty quickly to take selfies with the wife with her iPhone 7+ when we're out on the town in the evening LOL.

Does anyone know the frequency of the 2 quad cores that the Snapdragon 625 has. If you look under cpu z only all 8 cores can be used and they always have the same frequency.

Lol this phone does seem pretty popular
How would it not be? 5.2" full HD screen, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, SD card slot, 2.0Ghz octo-core processor, full network compatibility in US including Verizon & Sprint included, pure Android, and easily 5 hour SOT with all services running unrestricted... For $299 retail and if you watch the sales at Amazon/Best Buy/Newegg/Etc you can get it for under $249 (I got mine for $215 from Best Buy, on sale for $239 and I had a 10% off one item coupon).

There is nothing else comparable at the same price point at the moment... in my opinion the only better buy at the moment, if you don't have Verizon or Sprint, is the Axon 7 Mini at $199 (my son has this device, it is an extremely under-rated value).

I know someone with an axon 7 and it's terrible. The skin is heavy and it drains a lot of battery. The camera is also average. I think the g5 plus can take better pictures. The mini seems like the better buy.

I don't know... a friend has the regular Axon 7 and loves it, gets around 3.5-4 hours SOT in a time and the pictures are definitely better, especially in low light, maybe your buddy got a lemon (there does seem to be some QC issues with Axon).

The Mini is great, my son gets about 4 hours of SOT with the auto brightness off and screen on max, and the sound quality is actually pretty impressive (dual front facing speakers and Dolby ATMOS sound). Camera on that is about the same as the G5+... Honestly for $199 it's a steal.

They are skinned a bit, but with Nova Launcher it is kind of not relevant.

I switched from Moto G5 Plus, to the Axon 7, then back to Moto G5 Plus. The Axon 7 is riddled with bugs, the camera is a turd, and it gets hotter than an oven. I can vouch from first hand experience that this phone is better.

It's actually on sale now for $199 at Walmart!

Edit: Looks like they're going for $154 now! (Kind of stings I paid $230 a couple months that back)

I can see why. I feel like it isn't optimized.
Optimized? It's a low mod range phone that really outperforms much more expensive phones in every way but the camera.
