Question Random reboots

I did a partial transfer. I was coming from an iphone 12 so I transferred photos and contacts only. And I transferred via cable.

Mh, okey. I came from a Pixel 4 XL and transferred everything over with cable.

Did you transfer your old phone over with a cable, or backup, or did you start "fresh"?

Maybe we can narrow it down if it's software or hardware problem.

I used a cable to set up my 6 pro, but after the reboots I did a factory reset and left it with factory apps only, and it still randomly rebooted.

Starting to get worried now that there are several more folks with the same issue.

At this point my best guess would be a software glitch, probably to do with Android 12. Would be interesting to know which versions you guys are running.

My P6 Pro is still on the old pre-release one (no update yet), meaning 210817.015

You can find that out under Settings -> About phone -> scroll down until you see Build number (last line)

Do you have to send the old device back first?

They offered 2 choices. They can put a hold/authorize on my card and send new one, then I return old one once I get it. Or I just send the old one back and wait for the replacement.

I noticed something interesting, after the random reboots, I got kicked out of my creditcard/banking app, it said that my "security ID features blabla something" had changed and that I would need to re-login and had to enable biometrics again (doesn't happen after a "normal" reboot). Anyone else experienced this? Maybe it is unrelated, will edit this if I should get another random reboot and will see if that happens again. At this point, my best guess would still be a software glitch, maybe something to do with Tensor & the new Titan M2.

By the way (cuz of this security whatever), my phone is not yet rooted, bootloader is still locked. So it's not caused on my end.

One thing I didn't mention and that I haven't seen mention ned in this thread is which devices people have. Don't judge me, by no am using an AT&T variant, not the carrier unlocked version. I'm guessing most others are using the unlocked version, but still wanted to toss that out.

Hilariously I have just had a random reboot not even a reboot just a shutdown that then when I started the phone again started perfectly. It was at the point when I was on WhatsApp with a mistaken opening of the camera.
I've been voice typing, dictation and all the time. And using that in WhatsApp and various other apps including this one. It was only when I opened that camera mistakenly in WhatsApp that I had that shutdown. I'll keep an eye on this and see what happens.

Edit call on. I've just tried to replicate and I cannot. And by the way call on is supposed to mean:

I also had some minor hickups/app freezes, especially Outlook sometimes doesn't want to show me my e-mails, even though GMail works without a problem, but no UI crash yet. It's probably more Android12 related, than P6 Pro related.

Do you also run the old firmware?

I just had another random reboot this evening, phone was idle laying next to me. Login to my creditcard app still works with fingerprint enabled, so these two things are probably not connected.

Small status update: Today I had no reboots. Didn't use the phone much, maybe 2h SoT, phone was mostly lying idle. No major app update, no firmware update (still running pre-release .015) - still no idea what this problem is exactly or if it fixed itself.

Strangely enough, there seem to be four types of "reboots"

1. Some people here (and over in a Pixel 6 non Pro group) experience app crashes under little load (Telegram, opening camera), followed by blackscreen & followed by reboot after circa. 1 minute
2. Some people (like me) experience only random reboot whilst the phone is idle and doing "nothing"
3. Some people experience app crashes under high load (gaming, videoshooting...) followed by UI crash WITHOUT reboot
4. Some people experience app crashes under high load followed by reboots

Not sure if these problems are connected, or which of them might be hardware or software related.

What is clear, for sure, is that none of these issues should exist in the first place ./

I just talked for a while with a Google rep and he said that they are not aware of any reboot problems, no people over at Google Forums have reported such a thing. "We do not monitor Reddit or XDA" - so he said he opened a support ticket to the responsible team and they would look into it, he also asked that I / we report/feedback this under -> Settings -> Tips & Support -> Feedback.

We also talked about a lens flare problem, that at least the Pixel 6 Pro has. If you shot some photos where the sun is directly shining into the camera, you might want to re-check them. Most of mine have either some sort of big circular green dot in them, or a big beam of light like in a phone with a very bad HDR processing. It seems to be some sort of software glitch, he also reported that.

So hopefully those things can get fixed.

I had the random reboots/shutdowns from the moment I set it up. Opened the box (black 512gb - Aus model unlocked), ran through the setup including the November update, it shut it self down. It would shutdown a couple of times an hour from then onwards. The main triggers I noticed were it being put in my pocket, which guaranteed it would switch off, using the fingerprint sensor and opening the camera (I didn't get a single photo...). Tried a factor reset and i couldn't complete the setup process as it would crash before I could finish it.

Started a chat with google support on Thursday night, phone picked up by courier the next morning and apparently my replacement is enroute.

Ok, so after rebooting many times Friday, my 6 pro has not rebooted on its own since Saturday morning. Since hardware does not heal itself, it seems an update of an app or some of the stuff that Google updates without telling us fixed the problem.

Have any of you who were experiencing similar issues noticed that it cleared up?

They haven't shipped my replacement unit yet and I'm thinking I should cancel it now.

Well I was hoping to update myself in this thread and see if anyone had any solutions as my rebooting has gotten completely out of hand.
I was using Android auto Monday and the song suddenly stopped and I looked down to see the boot animation. About 30 minutes later I went to unlock the screen and it appeared to lock up. About 20 seconds later, again with the boot animation. It did it at l ast four more times yesterday. Once while trying to launch the camera it did it again. Since I got the phone there has yet to be a morning where it didn't tell me that the PIN was required after a restart.
This morning my alarm didn't go off but my wife's did (set for the same time). When I rolled over to look at my phone, the always on display and as on but where the fingerprint logo usually is, there was a padlock. I assume that's the image displayed when you have a PIN but no fingerprint setup. Anyways the phone was unresponsive and yet again, boot logo about the 0 seconds later. This time however it got stuck on the "G" screen with a little line moving under it. It stayed that way for almost ten minutes until I held the power button for 30 seconds.
