You mentioned unchecking Enable Superuser. I have done everything else but keep getting error 1123004 (root suspected). Do you think this could be the difference?

worth a shot, make sure you also do the full unroot further below that, but get rid of any other root apps you might have installed, aka flashfire, titanium backup, greenify, etc. and then remove supersu

Did they pull the update? I can't get my phone or LG Bridge to see the update (actually I've never gotten LG Bridge to see an update). Lol this is how many times I've tried (I keep setting my clock forward):

All pain and no gain. That sucks.

I'm willing to try adding in the FR step once we get back around to the weekend.
After a full unrooting, full installation of ALL user-added apps, a complete factory reset, and a flash back to the unrooted stock 10I image, I still cannot take the OTA from I --> O because it thinks I'm rooted.

I don't really give two ****s about 10O, but it does worry me that I might not be able to do any updating at all now. Anyone have any pointers? Folks who are on rooted 10O, were you coming from rooted 10I? I wonder if 10O added some sort of new security check.

Did you do a FR after flashing the unrooted 10i? This is sad news, since I might be in the same boat. If they release M, and we don't have this fixed, we might have to softbrick our device, play dumb, and go to ATT...uhh it said software update now it don boot!

Yes, sorry, I didn't list all of those steps in the order in which I did them. The FR was my very last step.

I even tried re-downloading SuperSU, thinking maybe its uninstallation wasn't clean, but no dice.

LG Bridge is giving me the finger too.

do you have any apps frozen or hidden or whatever from using debloater. or any xposed modules still active, or other root apps like titanium still installed? did you uncheck "enable superuser" is supersu before you did the full unroot?

I enabled all of the apps I previously had hidden or disabled. I uninstalled all of my Xposed modules. And I disabled SuperSU and did the "cleanup to move to other superuser app" thing before I uninstalled the app completely.

I never received a "uninstall complete" type of message from uninstalling SuperSU, nor did it reboot as it indicated it might. So I'm thinking investigating what that means might be a good next step. But otherwise, I'm baffled.

I think I'm in the same boat. I think in the end it's going to come down to editing /persist/rct and /persist/rct.cfg, but I don't know what vales should be in /persist/rct and I don't know how to ask my unrooted brother to access them (he has a clean unrooted g4)

I am wondering if we can edit rct without root by using the dd or even cp command in download mode. It would mean finding the exact location in the partition, but if we can flash it back without root while in download mode, it may solve our issue. But again, there are hex values in /persist/rct that need to reflect an unrooted device. (rct stands for root checker tool).

Decided to check to make sure everything was truly unblocked/unfrozen/unhidden with Debloater and found that there's one .apk that just won't come unblocked (and I'm not sure how it got hidden in the first place). GCUV.apk. Anybody else see that?

Edit: Its permissions are tied to just about everything, including Software Update.

GCUV are the nastiest one...with root you must checked at least twice with debloater..and after finish unroot , you must check again if its still hidden.

I think you might be right... Took a look to see what was in mine, see attached.

[Edit] Did a little more research and these are in fact the root checker tool daemon files (rctd). Deleting these files will still trip the root flag. Additionally , it appears that there is a serial number dedicated to the phone. The question.

Rct file for me just has a hex byte 'aB'

More information from LG G2

Is there a code for the G4 that's equivalent to the G2 code for the hidden menu (3845#*802#)?

Maybe someone who isn't rooted can tell us what the unrooted files look like. I'm thinking it's a little dicey to just drop in the G2's values.

Man, I can't shake it. I got it unblocked once last night and took the OTA, but after the reboot (following the failure of the OTA to install) it was blocked again. So close...

As promised, here is the exact system image i flashed to my H810 G4 which was running software version 10o. If anyone wants to rehost or mirror this that'd be cool. As always, back up your original system image first!!! I'm not responsible for any issues or mistakes as a result of the use of the image I am hosting. It works for me and it should work for you assuming you're also running 10o.

Apparently I can't post links so I'll break it down for you here:

If you still need a mirror, I can hook one up. Read my signature :p

I think I might have stumbled onto a way to get past the block. First, do a full unroot in SuperSU. Then flash your unrooted system image (you held onto it, right?) Then, go to your local AT&T store and get a replacement SIM card activated for your phone (you need to be, or have with you, the account holder or an authorized user. Some places charge for one, say you're having issues making calls or sending texts, if they try to charge for it you can usually get it waived if the change is for a network issue.) Power down your phone, replace the SIM card with the new one, power back up, and check for update. I'll go more in depth on how I stumbled onto this once I'm off work, but suffice to say I was on a rooted I build, was constantly getting the "suspected of rooting" message, and am now on an unrooted o build, downloaded and installed via OTA.

So, clarification on my previous post. Was on rooted I build, no Xposed. Constantly got the "suspected of rooting" message when trying to update. Did a full unroot through SuperSU and flashed my unrooted system.img, still no go. Decided to switch back to my Lumia 830 as my daily driver for a bit, which required activating a new SIM since the G4 uses a micro and the 830 a nano (I actually work at an AT&T store so I have easy access to a ton of SIM cards). Used the 830 for a couple weeks but carried my G4 around with me for quick access to Keep and other Google services through the 830's hotspot. Today decided to switch back to the G4, used the same nano card I used in the 830 with a nano-to-micro adapter. Powered the phone up after swapping the SIM, and after a bit got the update notice, which I hadn't seen in a while so I took a another swing at updating. Lo and behold, it actually updated successfully this time!

Potential rct checks sim? I'm going to link to your post in the rct thread

Did at any point try taking the update without the sim card in? I'm wondering if we can just try removing the sim card, reboot, and then try to take the OTA. That way we wouldn't have to get a new sim before every OTA :)

Yes, the phone acts like there's no update. Fairly certain it hits AT&T cellular servers in the update check, so it needs a live SIM.

What about taking a SIM from another At&t phone that isn't rooted, popping it in to take the update then replacing it with your original SIM. For example grab your wifes/kids SIM pop it in to take the update then return it to their phone and put your original SIM back in.

That's interesting you say that - about a week ago, even with the sim card in, my phone was acting like there was no update, even though it had already tried (and failed) to take it previously. So maybe that was just a failure on the OTA side. I'll go ahead and try to take the OTA without a sim this weekend and report back. I was expecting that you were going to say that the OTA would say "please insert sim" or something like that, so good news! Thanks
