RAZR HD Fido vs Rogers

Here's the deal... my mom got the RAZR HD from Fido and I got mine from Rogers. I have found no difference other than the lack of carrier bloat on the Fido version. I checked her About Phone info and compared to mine and everything seems identical (might've missed something). Would there be a way to install Fido's firmware instead of Rogers? I mean since they're gonna get a bloatless JB OTA wouldn't it be simpler than having to re-freeze all that junk?

If you have any idea on how to pull this off, I'm open to trying!

Well i wouldn't recommend you to get FIDO firmware on Rogers. Reason is that it might not get updated when rogers will release jelly bean in this month.

Interesting : I have rogers razr HD and bought another Fido razr HD for my wife from kijiji. I was playing with Fido phone and i popped in Rogers sim in it. The phone got rebooted and voila.. it had Rogers firmware on it with all the bloatware.

That's really odd... damn rogers and their bloat lol guess I'll have to freeze it, thanks for the reply!

I got my RAZR off kijiji and popped in my rogers sim and its a rogers device(dunno if sim did it or not cuz it was the device's first run), there's gotta be a way to prevent this though

I bought a Fido RAZR HD and when I turned it on the first time everything showed Rogers firmware but no Rogers bloat. Then I popped my Rogers Sim into the phone, the phone did a factory reset and the Rogers bloat came, but it was all stuff you can disable, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

Rogers and fido have same firmeare on it ... same thing for some bell motorola version and virgin mobile...

When you insert the carrier simcard the phone ask for a master reset and install thr carrier apps..

I bought a Rogers RAZR HD A.D. as soon as my FIDO Sim went in it automatically switched to a FIDO phone. (FIDO boot and I didn't have to unlock the phone)

There is a warning message when you start the RAZR HD with the neutral Rogers firmware. It says that it'll wipe your phone based on some SIM setting. If you choose to proceed, you get either Rogers or Fido branded firmware. I've reflashed the stock ROM a few times so its tested.

If you reflash the Rogers ROM, you're back to being unbranded. If you proceed, you reboot into recovery and it flashes the branded stuff onto your phone. I think it only asked me on the first few startup. Might have stopped after I performed a normal reboot.
