I just had to root again and used the following method:

Code:
Put attached file on internal storage.
Boot into Recovery (CWM)
install zip > choose zip from /sdcard

I have few questions:

1. If I had to send my phone back for warranty purpose, does relocking bootloader suffice to fool Motorola that the phone was never modified?
2. What is the amount of ram usable?
3. how much memory does the system consumes after first boot?
4. how much memory does the system consumes after login Google and Motorola account (but didn't install any app from Play Store yet)?

No because Motorola have a record of your phone from when you requested the unlock code.
So what fibblesan?? No offence intended. :)

Unlocking the bootloader will not normally damage the phone.

So, unless Motorola can prove that you have caused damage to the device, by following their detailed BL unlock procedure, they have no "out" from an EU-wide Warranty, for at least two years

So, returning your phone for something unrelated, like a real fault, caused by poor manufacturing, or a dodgy component not functioning properly, or something else which makes the phone unusable or unacceptable, or some other fault, not caused by the user, is covered in the EU by the two year statutory warranty, which is a Directive that has been transposed into law in all EU countries which did not already have such consumer protection, as in the UK by their own superior six year protection/warranty, the SOGA, administered by Trading Standards, relating to manufacturing defects, etc

http://europa.eu/legislation_summaries/consumers/protection_of_consumers/l32022_en.htm

http://sogahub.tradingstandards.gov.uk/

Unlocking the Bootloader does not invalidate your rights as a consumer in the EU, which are generally that the goods must be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose.

I have noted previously that Apple were forced to revise and change their own International Warranty terms in the EU, and had to incorporate the mandatory EU two year protection/warranty period into their Warranty as applied in the EU.

I didn't say anything about the warranty would be invalidated? The user asked if locking the bootloader would fool Motorola and I said no because they have a record. A question was asked.. I answered it.

Nice rant though

Of course you are right flibblesan....and I even got your nom de plume wrong

But, it was a glorious rant, agreed. :D

Hopefully it was actually informative, and not just a rant for rants sake.

Sorry for misrepresenting your post, as I said, no offence was intended, I hope none taken??

Noob question

Hi everybody from a new android user!
I searched through the FAQ but haven't found an answer to a silly question: if I unlock the bootloader and then root my (future) Moto G, will I get official OTA upgrades anyway? And if I install a custom recovery and a new kernel? Thx!

To my knowledge, mere unlocking the bootloader won't stop you from getting the updates. But if you install custom Recovery or Rom, its possible you won't get notification of updates.

If you do install future updates, they will likely wipe the custom recovery.

So I guess I'll wait until a stable Rom will be released and then try to play a bit with my new toy, by now I need a drama-free phone!
After all, development is just beginning, can't wait to see what will come out from this amazing forum!
Thx for the answer!:highfive:

You don't need to worry about OTA.
1. Unlocking the bootloader and rooting doesn't affect it at all, that's for sure.
2. Even today it is possible to flash 4.4 to our European devices, look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578997
It's perfectly safe and working, I'm running it.
3. Custom KitKats are on their way, so far CM11 and Omni were announced to come in near future.
You say you're new to Android. Don't be afraid, read a lot from this forums and you'll find answers and solutions for just about everything you may need.

3- Unlock
[*]Check if your device can be unlocked by pasting this string in the pecific field on the Motorola website, and clicking “Can my device be unlocked?”
[*]NOTE: If your device is unlockable, a "REQUEST UNLOCK KEY" button will now appear at the bottom of that page.
]
Hey, I´ve tried a couple of times doing this but it doesn´t work for me. My device is unlockable, so I go through all the legal and press I agree but I don´t have the REQUEST UNLOCK KEY button.

Can someone also try it to see if it´s a problem from the website for today?

Thanks

okay... I've spent my past 3 years on the Samsung side and *gasp* have never used ADB or fastboot for anything. Built some stock based roms and did mods using all the standby apk modding tools but I am still not quite sure about adb and fastboot. Just never had to use them doing anything on the Sammy side.

Seems easy enough but I've got a few questions. Okay so I see references to a motorola fastboot that is different from the normal fastboot. All the mod or tutorials just give normal fastboot commands so can I just use the fastboot that comes with the slimed down ADB ? Can I just use Koush's universal driver (or is the moto g not included) ? I read somewhere to add it to a script, I'll assume this means with notepad++ ? not too sure on this one.

This might sound dumb but is fastboot the same as entering download mode on Samsung phones

Also...what's with reviewers saying the back cover is hard to get off the phone... it's as if they have weak fingers and have only used an iPhone so they've never had to take a back cover off a phone before.

?

Have you tried an alternate browser ?
