No because Motorola have a record of your phone from when you requested the unlock code.I have few questions:
1. If I had to send my phone back for warranty purpose, does relocking bootloader suffice to fool Motorola that the phone was never modified?
So what fibblesan?? No offence intended. No because Motorola have a record of your phone from when you requested the unlock code.
I didn't say anything about the warranty would be invalidated? The user asked if locking the bootloader would fool Motorola and I said no because they have a record. A question was asked.. I answered it.So what fibblesan?? No offence intended.
Unlocking the bootloader will not normally damage the phone.
So, unless Motorola can prove that you have caused damage to the device, by following their detailed BL unlock procedure, they have no "out" from an EU-wide Warranty, for at least two years
So, returning your phone for something unrelated, like a real fault, caused by poor manufacturing, or a dodgy component not functioning properly, or something else which makes the phone unusable or unacceptable, or some other fault, not caused by the user, is covered in the EU by the two year statutory warranty, which is a Directive that has been transposed into law in all EU countries which did not already have such consumer protection, as in the UK by their own superior six year protection/warranty, the SOGA, administered by Trading Standards, relating to manufacturing defects, etc

Unlocking the Bootloader does not invalidate your rights as a consumer in the EU, which are generally that the goods must be of merchantable quality and fit for purpose.
I have noted previously that Apple were forced to revise and change their own International Warranty terms in the EU, and had to incorporate the mandatory EU two year protection/warranty period into their Warranty as applied in the EU.

Of course you are right flibblesan....and I even got your nom de plume wrongI didn't say anything about the warranty would be invalidated? The user asked if locking the bootloader would fool Motorola and I said no because they have a record. A question was asked.. I answered it.
Nice rant though
Heh, none taken. You did post some very useful information though and hopefully it'll help people out.Of course you are right flibblesan....and I even got your nom de plume wrong
But, it was a glorious rant, agreed.
Hopefully it was actually informative, and not just a rant for rants sake.
Sorry for misrepresenting your post, as I said, no offence was intended, I hope none taken??
Yeah, I think most CDMA carriers are getting network specific phones. In the US at least.looks like not only is boost getting the moto g, but also verizon..

Its not much at this time but you can expect it to look like my Moto X thread when completed.
Done. I in fact removed the Engadget review alltogether. Thanks for pointing it out. I had explored other 3 sections. Didn't explore General. My bad.excellent thread![]()

To my knowledge, mere unlocking the bootloader won't stop you from getting the updates. But if you install custom Recovery or Rom, its possible you won't get notification of updates.Hi everybody from a new android user!
I searched through the FAQ but haven't found an answer to a silly question: if I unlock the bootloader and then root my (future) Moto G, will I get official OTA upgrades anyway? And if I install a custom recovery and a new kernel? Thx!
So I guess I'll wait until a stable Rom will be released and then try to play a bit with my new toy, by now I need a drama-free phone! To my knowledge, mere unlocking the bootloader won't stop you from getting the updates. You don't need to worry about OTA.So I guess I'll wait until a stable Rom will be released and then try to play a bit with my new toy, by now I need a drama-free phone!
After all, development is just beginning, can't wait to see what will come out from this amazing forum!
Thx for the answer!:highfive:
Hey, I´ve tried a couple of times doing this but it doesn´t work for me. My device is unlockable, so I go through all the legal and press I agree but I don´t have the REQUEST UNLOCK KEY button.3- Unlock
[*]Check if your device can be unlocked by pasting this string in the pecific field on the Motorola website, and clicking “Can my device be unlocked?”
[*]NOTE: If your device is unlockable, a "REQUEST UNLOCK KEY" button will now appear at the bottom of that page.
