Dude, I switched from s3 to TX and Sony's implementation of ics is 100x faster than Samsung's jelly bean. Samsung pushes for quick updates but very buggy and they haven't implemented buttery smooth on crapwiz.

Say... 100x faster! Boy that is impressive!

No buttery smooth on crapwiz? Oh No! :crying:

Life can be really nasty somtimes! ;)

I'll still wait until summer before I make a decision.

Where is 4.1 for the Xperia S? It's going to be 3 versions behind when google announces KLP in may while the XS is newer than the Galaxy S2 which recieved official JB 4.1 today trololo.

It will be released Q1. I'm sure touchwiz will be still quite laggy on s4 and 100% sure that the dialer lag is still there which will took 3 seconds to open with this insane specs.

You are fighting about 4.0.4 /4.1.2/ 4.2.0 most of the people does not even know how to update their phones:silly:.(Who cares) Only you guys are masters in mobile phones.

Jelly Bean predecessor Ice Cream Sandwich is currently running on 20.1% of all Android devices,

The popular Android Gingerbread OS, released in 2010, has now dipped below a 50% market share but will continue to come pre-installed on numerous budget handsets.

True but if they do everything perfect then what point of developement? if sony update us with 4.2 then most of developers will dwell on the changing the orginal firmware -instead of port the newer version of operating system because new arent Exist !!!! which will not be that interesting :p

Like now we have ics and developers are working 4.1.2 (CM version) and so on, which is significantly more excited

thats the point of developement! isnt it

That the reason for buying xperia Z is to unlocked bootloader then you always have margin to to having fun with OC-> S4 pro. the 8064 cpu have maximum frequency 1.7ghz .Sony decresed to make better battery life and heat issue but if you want full power you can alway do so.If you dont like sony software always go to xda instal pure android in jeally bean cm
reference http://www.qualcomm.com/chipsets/snapdragon

Moreover, sony provide support it atleast xperia s was award for being developement friendly tell that they not !!! no like samsung which dont make your life that easy !

references http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-source-project-as-first-experimental-device/

Now Samsung lovers any dwell on that?

I have a S2.
And official 4.1 is a ****. It's slow and it is not butter at all.
Now I use CM10 and my S2 is smoother than S3. But there is a bugs that will never be fixed, like autobrigthness and audiobug, partially broken hwc and other.
I'll never buy sammy phone again. I just tired to decide - fully worked ****ty rom or partially broken but awesome.

And one more thing. Yes, sammy release updates fast. But their ICS on S2 use old gingerbread scrolling. I'm sure that there is a lot of things that they just port from old roms and don't rewrite from new sources.

If I could just get some further clarification here.

If a phone is SIM-locked (as most branded devices are?) and I then pay the carrier to get SIM lock removed, will this free up the bootloader in the process?
Unfortunately, that is currently not the case. Sony IS currently working on trying to change that, but I have concerns that carrier/OEM communication is going to break down here, or carriers will **** up. If there's any company I trust less than Samsung, it's AT&T.

As to the Xperia S - I'm not sure if any MSM8660 device has received Jellybean yet. Qualcomm seems to be a bit slow with that variant. Also, Sony's older devices diverged much more from Qualcomm and Google reference sources than newer ones. Sony is reducing those differences with each iteration, meaning that future devices will get more rapid updates.

Xperia Z shares the same exact CPU as the Nexus 4. That's VERY good for everyone involved.

I am not bashing or being a fan boy etc. to anyone.. being a tech lover and loving the xda community, this thread is about being open minded and discussing past experiences and taking decisions accordingly, not burning our hands again..
Ohh really? you are not a fanboy? ok. how many times do you tell that to yourself everyday? but we believe you.

I have been seeing a lot of view points on why we should go for sony and not samsung anymore.. but personally.. I have used all samsung galaxy flagships over the years, and I keep getting dissapointed.. and this time I finally had a realization that its time to move to better companies who really are serious about what they are creating and who listen to their customers and the community.
so samsung/HTC/LG and all other companies are not serious about their products?
listening to customers? please tell me what does 'customers' want. do you think you know more than any other multi-billion dollar corporate about what customers want?

So I have outlined a few quotes and reasons from elite recognised devs to users with their experiences below. If you have any pointers you would like me to add, please feel free.
you then went ahead to add Entropy512 comment. really? do you think people here are morons? everybody knows that Entropy512 is a 'certified' Samsung hater.
what samsung names it's Exynos SOC is none of your or Entropy512's concern. they can name it even Exynos hex if they want and it would still be fine. it's a freaking name. if you think you can design a better processor, do it first and then talk.

If you love development and love open source, sony is the way to go, (also the chipset being similar to the nexus 4 )
why? what has same chipset as N4 got to do with this? if it is so good, why can't Sony put 4.2 on their flagship phone? its has been months that 4.2 is available, still Sony can't put this in their flagship phone?

By the time s4 is announce, sony or htc would announce an even better phone..
What? so a Sony Xperia Z2 before there is a Samsung S4? do you have any clue what you talking about?

So the idea is to go for a device you instantly love, and not wait..
you sound like a typical MS astroturfer.

yeah 4.1 for s2 with many bugs such as security exploit and brick bug (wipe data and boom ur phone bricks) thats how samsung delivers updates lol
we know you are not a fanboy. how many 2011 Sony phones have JB?

Absolutely mate. its not about being a fan boy or not liking a company or something...

The idea is so educate and make others aware of my or our experiences with samsung.. and I don't want others to go through the same experiences and pain which we have gone through.
i see you have a political agenda here. why don't you go out in the streets of Delhi urging people to boycott samsung?

dont we love having the latest and greatest of android?
its always an issue with samsung in that case.
which Sony phone is running the latest Android?

Dude, calm down man.
If you are a dev Sony is very good. They support us here and release the sources :)

I'm not against Samsung, my sister has Galaxy Gio, so that's no reference for flagship devices. But I also need to agree that they feel kind of cheap with the plastic. On the other hand I also don't like HTC, not smooth enough for me.

I own an Xperia S and it also isn't the best phone, but now after 9months of developing I finally have a really smooth stock based rom :)

Maybe Galaxy S3 isn't always smooth, but that's why we devs are here on XDA, to give a better user experience :)

PS: If this thread goes on like this, and people keep bashing each other about being a fan of Sony or Samsung I'll ask the mods to close it.

very true mate. all devices are great and every device has their pros and cons
so its upto us as a user to go for the one suits us better. a lot of us were dissapointed about samsungs development support, and are discussing our experiences.. so that people don't waste their money.

sony has really taken their game to a whole new level. ive been using the note and waiting for the Z now..
and personally i love development and modding.. and ive been really upset with samsung sources and laggy buggy roms coz of the lack of sources..

so finally ive realised that its first important to see which oem is good with supporting devs and then going for it.. so sony it is

i think many people are misunderstanding and getting into arguments here.. all these companies are doing amazing work with technology.. but its about making the right decisions. its an open forum and hence as users from other devices its nice to always share our experiences.

thanks a lot mate and yes i think if these bashings continue .. it would be nice to close the threads :)
