Hello, I have discovered that my Nook HD+ is now rebooting after bootup, and I plan on reflashing it. I don't know what rom I flashed it to begin with so I'm looking for recommendations as to what to flash it with now. Its been through so many changes and I don't remember most of it as I only use the device for reading comics. When I boot up it says "cyanoboot" which I believe at one point in time had it booting from the SD card. It currently has clockworkmod and some form of LineageOS on it.

I prefer to have google play services, and the device is generally used for reading comics but occasionally used for youtube.

What versions of recovery/os would people recommend? I'm looking at Lineageos 14.1 20171216 and twrp 3.2.3.0 right now, downloaded from various threads here.

Thank you

Dusting out my Nook+. I put in Cynogenmod 4.4. I don't remember all the steps to do it. How do I update to the "latest"? Thinking about using Lineage OS.

The "latest" Lineage I've been able to find on here is a version of Lineage OS 14.1 from 2019, at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81281693&postcount=73

The steps to install it are, essentially, to use ClockWorkMod, or similar, to flash the zip onto the device. Some extremely thorough info is available already at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613

I've written out my own, simplified notes on the steps, for my own use, based on that source and others. I could share if you get stuck. Let me know how it goes, and long live the dusty old Nook HD+ :)

Thanks for this, I am planning to sell my Nook HD+ after a very long time of it just sitting around and wanted to update it to the latest stable for the next owner.
@dylan_k please post your instructions, they are all over the place in the other threads. Thanks.

How to Install Lineage OS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2) on Nook HD+

Read this all the way through before you get started.

I take zero credit for making these resources. This is just my combination of them, in a format I could read later on.

Step 0. Backup
===============================================================================

In case you run into trouble, have a copy of the original OS handy. Here's one, with only slight modifications: NookHDplus-stock-2.1.1-rooted.zip

source: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613

Step 1. Make a Startup Disk
===============================================================================

Using a specially formatted SD disk, you can boot the device into a modified recovery mode. This will allow you to install non-standard OS, software, etc.

### 1a. format the SD disk

Format (fat32) any size card with Windows or SDFormatter (free on web).

Use partitioning software (Mini-Tool Partition Wizard or EaseUS Partition Manager, both free) to set the first (and only) partition as "active". Don't repartition, just set active.

### 1b. Copy the startup files to the SD

Use the file named `NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-BOOTFILES-r4-(05.15.13).rar`

Unarchive the .rar file and copy the contents to the SD. There should be five files. Make sure you copy the MLO file first before you copy the other four.

Now you have a bootable SD disk that will run ClockWork Mod v. 6028. THis is the latest version that will work with all the available files.

### 1c. Copy the installation zips to the CWM SD

The SD card should have some free space on it. You can add .zip files for things to install next.

if you want to reset to stock, add these stockfiles:

- NookHDplus-stock-2.1.1-rooted.zip
- NookHD-HDplus-Universal-Root-rev3-(09.10.13)
- NookHD-HDplus-stock-enable-Unknown-Sources-rev0-(09.08.13)

to setup Lineage OS, add these flashfiles:

- lineage-14.1-20191130-UNOFFICIAL-ovation.zip
- open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20200516.zip
- twrp-3.0.1-0-ovation.zip

Now you should have a bootable SD card. It should contain the bootfiles, and also a set of zip files to use for install.

Step 2. Boot from the Startup Recovery SD card
===============================================================================

Insert the CWM SD to the device and boot to it. The nook HD+ can be fickle about booting to SD so be patient. It may help to boot by holding the "N" and Power buttons until just a few seconds after the logo appears.

You should see a menu of options. volume buttons to scroll, N to select, and power for back.

Step 3. Flash Files to Memory
===============================================================================

For Clean Flash:

- Go to "Wipe" and then Swipe to Factory Reset
- After thats done go to "Advanced Wipe"
- Tick Dalvik/Art Cache, System, Data and Cache ONLY!! and then "Swipe to Wipe"
- flash TWRP
- Reboot to Recovery (either using boot sd or TWRP installed in previous step)
- Flash Rom and optionally Gapps (MUST BE DONE TOGETHER IN THAT ORDER)
- Then flash Magisk
- boot to system, do setup, install magisk.apk and any other apps
