I am in the same position as the person above my comment. Can someone please give me instructions?

I am on a GM1917 with OxygenOS 10 Open Beta 19, and I want to jump to OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 5.

Is this instruction my best path? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...eamwin-recovery-project.4289455/post-85157715

Any advice from someone that has already updated would be highly appreciated, especially if you have a GM1917.

EDIT:
I installed the OOS 11 OB5 through OTA and then I did not reboot.
Then I installed Magisk in the Magisk app for both the current slot and slot_b.
Then I rebooted.
I was in my phone and nothing was wrong, then I booted into fastboot and I connected my phone to my computer.
Then I installed this version of TWRP just like the original post says.
Then I rebooted.
NOW IT BOOTS ONLY INTO THIS VERSION OF TWRP!!!!
Also it shows slot_a as having no OS to boot into. And it seems like slot_a still has my old version of TWRP on it.

EDIT 2:
I fixed the issue by going back into Nebrassy's version of TWRP and selecting fix bootloop. But there is still no OS on slot_a and reboots take a little longer than before. But the performance after I am inside my phone is pretty good.

Is this how things are meant to be? How can I restore slot_a? How can I install this version of TWRP to slot_a?

This is what I did to install the latest version of OOS 11 and keep root and this version of TWRP.
Maybe it will help you.

1. Install OTA update as a local upgrade but DON'T REBOOT.
2. Open Magisk and install to direct install DON'T REBOOT.
3. Open Magisk again and install to inactive slot NOW REBOOT.
4. After reboot you should still be rooted and have the latest OTA update with stock recovery.
5. Use phone stock recovery to boot into bootloader mode.
6. Use your PC with adb to flash nebrassy 2 TWRP image in the phone bootloader mode.
7. When in TWRP go to Advanced > Flash Current TWRP.
8. Flash latest Magisk (have this .zip file in download folder already) again to keep root.
9. Reboot and enjoy latest OOS11 version with TWRP and rooted.

i've followed this method but stuck on bootloop. apparently some of my magisk modules didnt like android 11 .. so i'd advise everyone to disable them first.
btw if you stuck in bootloop just flash this recovery and uninstall magisk, boot , re install it again and you'll be fine
thank you midgo12 for the steps..!

and for anyone wondering, no its not worth it.. stick to your oos10 . i haven't faced any bugs yet but its just not as fast. when you click on a notification it'll take 1 second to react and open it. and its kinda annoying. apparently its how OOS11 is even on OP8 / OP9 ive seen people complaining

Will this keep phone encrypted?

build for FBEv2 encryption roms, only use this if you're on a custom rom and the other builds don't decrypt for you

Hi - i am bit desperate. Trying to recover my data from a botched LineageOS update. I tried both versions of your TWRP (booting from fastboot and flashing as well) - no joy. It wouldn't decrypt the data partition. I get:

"Password failed, please try again!"
"Failed to decrypt data."

I only had a simple 4-digit PIN setup.

Am I doing something wrong?

UPDATE: something worked! I think on the normal version (not the FBEv2). I tried the ADB SHELL commands from this article: https://android.stackexchange.com/q...-over-adb-and-recovery-twrp-lineageos-16-redm

Initially - it did n't work - I had the following result:
"Attempting to decrypt data partition or user data via command line.
Failed to decrypt data".

But then after a while I went back to Mount menu and Select Storage - and then I saw the Internal Storage SIZE being reported correctly and voila!!

Perhaps it's because I have the 256GB variant and it took a bit longer to decrypt it?

Is there an unofficial version for OP8 OOS 11 available?

Sorry for the double post
Finally found out, i post it if it can help someone in the same situation

Force phone to reboot in fastboot mode
from adb folder, check the slot with
Code:
Fastboot getvar current-slot
then set to the other slot with this command:
Code:
fastboot --set-active=a
(or b if you were to boot in slot a)

all good, restared, rooted, data is here, i must confess i was scared to have lost everything and had to spend days to reset all as it was 😅

thanks guys
if i make then slot "a" to active, then I reboot, phone.apk fc.
then i remake slot "b" to active, phone works done, but not rooted.

Call recording is not installed.

I reinstalled a stock rom 11.
Then I flashed twrp.img [TWRP-3.5.1-guacamole-Nebrassy-3].
Done!
Then I reflashed Magisk23, but phone.apk fc...
Again.
Do you have modules installed?
In my opinion the problem comes from magisk or from some module, so it would be useful to try to restart with all the modules deactivated and, if this does not solve, you could try to reinstall magisk from recovery but this do it after uninstalling all the modules.

The steps to follow should be:
  1. Firmware installation
  2. First complete boot
  3. Restart in fastboot mode and start recovery twrp from img
  4. Install recovery twrp
  5. Root with Magisk installation
  6. Reboot

Is there actively work going on on the backup problem or will this just never work on OOS 11?
If so, are there any other alternatives besides TWRP for full backups?

Did a bit more thorough testing today, and guac -3 is the winner because of adb sideload working. (y)

    guac -2:
    - adb works without MTP
    - adb works with MTP
    - MTP works
    - adb sideload broken

    guac -3:
    - adb broken without MTP
    - adb works with MTP
    - MTP works
    - adb sideload works
    3

I am too stupid to figure this one out myself. Can you explain why using the same password causes the Parallel partition (user 999) to not be backed up? Shouldn't it actually become easier to decrypt?

Also, on an unrelated note, I am on OOS 10.3.8 and official TWRP 3.5.2. I want to try out OOS 11 and your TWRP.
If I back up my entire OS using official TWRP, then upgrade to OOS 11 and your TWRP, but later don't like OOS 11, can I downgrade to OOS 10.3.8 (using your TWRP) directly using the backup image files? Will that work?
From page 1 in the devs notes.

    bugs:
    backup/restore is unreliable.

Several post here including mine refer to a "255" error message when trying to create a backup using this TWRP version.

I have done what you suggest but I had to restore back to stock 10.3.8 first using the MSM tools in this post.
Then unlock bootloader, flash latest official TWRP .img using adb etc.
Reboot to TWRP recovery to make sure it is functioning correctly.
Then copy over the last 10.3.8 TWRP backup made before upgrading from my PC back to the phone and also the latest official TWRP.zip and restore the backup, flash TWRP zip and latest Magisk if you were rooted.
A bit of stuffing around involved:///

I am happy with the latest OOS11 EU version and it is fine for my needs so I am staying put for now:)

    Introduction:

Team Win Recovery Project or TWRP for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

    Key Features:

Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
    Onscreen keyboard
    Easy selection of internal/external storage

In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe, and run a backup.

We are looking for other talented developers, themers, and device maintainers if they are interested in helping with a free, open source project.

    Source Code:

    GitHub - https://github.com/TeamWin/android_bootable_recovery

    Gerrit Instance - http://gerrit.twrp.me

If you have made your own TWRP build for an unsupported device, please let us know. We might add your build to the list of unofficial builds. Bear in mind that we are working hard to add more devices and we may add your device to our official build list later.

Hello, this is TWRP, for Oneplus 7/Pro/5G that supports Android 11
can be flashed to boot with working decryption on android 11 roms

    bugs:
    backup/restore is unreliable

    Installation:
    1. fastboot boot twrp.img
    2. go to Advanced > Flash Current TWRP
    3. after that is done, if you were using a custom kernel, reflash it now
    4. if you were using magisk, reflash it now

    Updating to a newer build:
    1. download new build to internal storage
    2. go to Advanced > Install Recovery Ramdisk
    4. select the new image
    5. after that is done, if you were using a custom kernel, reflash it now
    6. if you were using magisk, reflash it now

Will there be an installer zip or just an .img?
Read the Installation instructions, there's a new experimental feature replacing the need for zips.
